I had my car out for a long drive yesterday, everything went good.
But on my last left turn a sound came from left rear tire area as if a tire had fallen off, I stopped shortly after and found nothing wrong and noise disappeared after I straightened out.
Now I just put new caragars and 15" rims and tires on in Carlisle.
Can a change from 14" to 15" rims and tires do anything to rear axle, oh I looked for rubbing signs there were none.
Puzzled.
Anyone good Ideas were to look?

I wonder if the tyre settled into the bead? Or is the noise still there on ALL left turns?

Sometimes a locker diff. will make a loud noise.

What is a locker diff, the noise did not last, I was 5 min from home, it never made it again in that distance, puzzled?

Detroit Locker, it is an aftermarket differential, It locks the rear wheels together under acceleration using gears, the factory used an open diff., or Sure Grip which uses clutches. A Detroit locker will let out a loud POP occasionally. Mine has done it twice to me in 8 years.

This noise lasted for a few seconds, sounded like a flat tire,

Well, going from 14" to 15" will not cause rubbing, I am sure you could get 17" or 18"s in there without rubbing.

You say that these tyres were brand new? I wonder if it had a thick label on the tyre and it came off. I have seen new tyres with double labels, often happens when specs change or something like that. I guess if they did not shred, they could sound like a tyre delaminating for a second. But that's a long shot.

Maybe it's something rolling around in your trunk.

If the Cragars are unilug check the torque. Thay like to loosen up a bit after installation.

If it was the wheels being loose the noise would always be there..I really doubt thats the problem.

I'd jack it up and check for play in the axle. Might be a bearing goin bad or it might need adjusted.

I agree with this check because of a bearing problem I had once.

I heard or felt something in the back of the car while on the freeway. (a rumble that sounded off).
In A pull over check I felt the bearing area on the diff. and it was hot.
I drove another 100 miles with this in mind and a check every 20mi or so.
At home I pulled it apart and found that the bearing had over heated and the inner race had expanded to the point that it started to turn. It than welded itself to the axial and the rollers started turning again. The rollers were a brown crumbly mess. But still worked.
An experience and something to think about.
