Bought tires from Summit and got this

Wanted to go with a different brand tire other than BFG Radial TA so bought tires from Summit.
I spoke with Summit rep before purchase and she told me they rotate out their tires every 90 days - so I bought 2 rear tires in 275/60/15
One tire was manufactured in Nov 22 and the other March 23
Also when looking at where blue dye is on sidewall it looks like sidewall is beginning to crack
So, do these tires have premature sidewall cracking or is this normal?
Summit said they will take tires back
Your thoughts?

looks like the blue spray is cracking, tires look OK

Sooo, one tire is 2 years old, the other is almost 3? So much for rotating the stock. I would send em back and insist on “new tires”, sometime in the 24 or 25 years.

Those appear to be Mickey Thompson S/T tires which are the same as Cooper Cobras. I run them on my ERA Cobra Roadster, black side out. Excellent tires.

As I understand it, the M/Ts are based on a Goodyear casing and are made here and the Coopers are made in mexico. At least thats how it was.
[way cool Cobra btw!]

Dates are overated. On bias ply tires i will agree, but on radials anything over 7 years old will blow, even sitting still with less than 100 miles on them. The biggest failures I have had were BF Goodrich. The only radials i have had good luck with on age is Cooper tires.View attachment 1832287
The two rears are blown, less than 50 miles, but we're about 10 years old when the blew. Exactly where it sits.
You know what BFG stands for don't you? Basically friggen garbage, and now way overpriced

I may have commented in this thread earlier, haven't re-read.
My tires tend to time out.
If those two-three year old tires were for a daily driver, wouldn't bother me.
For a collector car that MIGHT get driven a couple thousand miles a year? Send em back.

We pay huge money for these new tires and IMO I would ask Summit to send you something with at least a 2025 date. Everyone tries to promote the 10 year rule and buy new again because of aging rubber. Coker sent me tires a few years ago that were 3 years old. They gave me a hard time and wanted me to pay for return shipping and after hearing that everyone rotates their tire inventory I am not buying it. As in the case of Coker it was on the order to not send me tires that were more than 2 years old, they screwd up. If I accept something with older manufacture dates then i expect to pay less not top dollar.

PS: Not sure but I thought I heard Summit gets their tire from Coker.

I don't normally have any issues with tires expiring from age..... been taking the advice given above by many for a long time....

Just send them...........

Blue spray cracking? Nothing wrong with tires in my opinion.
 yep the BLUE soap sealer, they put on for storage
so they don't get black mares on the raised white letters
It washes off, not really an issue,
even a few (5) months or maybe near a year different between casing/casting dates,
not a big deal
as long as they aren't already 3 years old or something

Send them back if you want a newer casting date
you may have to wait a while, supply & demand
Summit is great with customer services...

Not really

Most all of the BFG tires sold in the USA market
are made in 2 places in Alabama, Tuscaloosa & Opelika
& Woodburn, Indiana
they (Michelin) do have a plant in Thailand,
but that's for the foreign markets also
they are also under ownership of & produced/mnfgd by
Michelin Tire Company USA

opinions vary

Any tire;
I've had them on 40-50+ muscle cars, not a great traction tire, soft tread
but I have never had 1 failure of them, even when 10+ years old or older
especially when cars/tires 'are garage stored 99% of their life'...

people abuse **** or leave it outside in the elements, sun especially
or doesn't drive them enough they just sit, any tires need to be rolled & often
& then blame the manufacturer, or say it's not good, way too often

Now Cooper ('Cheaper version' of a BFG style tire) USA Ohio & Arkansas,
But are mostly made in Mexico 'cheap labor force'
& some even made in Serbia
People seem to love them, why ?
IMHFO/Experience especially with 4wd tires, M/S tires are junk IMO
are in that questionable category, some great, some not so good
& wear out quickly too

Mickey Thompson tires are mfgrd in USA, Goodyear Rubber, Akron & Byron Ohio
good quality tire for an intended purpose, if you buy them accordingly...

Maybe if you live 'outside of the USA' it does
or place where they don't make tires, or make them on the same scale/s...
To me it matters almost more now in todays global markets
to buy American, Made in USA/owned in the USA Corp.'s

Others are full of foreign junk, lessor materials, not as tightly regulated,
cheap/er underpaid (or even near or actual slave) labor,
with far less quality control measures...

does that/them fact/s, make them inferior quality, maybe ?

To me I want home grown tires, with trusted quality & local service...

Opinions vary vastly, that's mine...
Take it or leave it, I really don't care, just sharing the facts...

I'm proud to be & buy 'American made' quality products...

Scott stated they are junk, "basically friggin garbage" BFG, made in the USA and that "made in the USA... BFG", was all I was going off of when I commented quality has nothing to do with WHERE they were made.

Many need to get their heads out of their asses that only the USA can produce quality, but I won't do politics here.. unlike many that like to inject it into 50% of their posts.

We've been making tires in Canada since the advent of time and still do. Have never had any issues with any of my tires, other than BFG's going Brown and Goodyear Marathon radial trailer tires, that after EIGHTEEN years, decided to start blowing apart on me pulling my boat, and that is my stupidity to trust them that far.

Canadian Tire manufacturers..

Key Tire Manufacturing Plants in Canada
  • Michelin Canada: Operates three plants in Nova Scotia (New Glasgow, Waterville, and Bridgewater), manufacturing passenger and light truck tires.
  • Goodyear Canada: Operates plants in Napanee, Ontario, and Medicine Hat, Alberta.
  • Bridgestone Canada: Operates a manufacturing plant in Joliette, Quebec.
Other Major Brands Active in Canada

My Cooper Cobra's are 20+ years old. So old tire shops will not support. I had to have an independent patch a nail hole I picked up. After promising not to reveal their name.

Cooper Cobra in my opinion is the best bang for the buck tire buy. Not having the best of luck with M/T, Good Year Eagle, BF Goodrich as of late. (Though the Eagles, I believe was the best performing tire. They wore fast)

On the slick side. Ive had better experience with Hossier than Good Year or M/T.

Just my experiences.

I never heard of Hossier.. Hoosier on the other hand have decent slicks.

From my personal experience, I would NEVER buy tires on the internet and have them shipped to my house. You want to buy them from the installer and before they mount them: Check the build dates, that the tires all match, and they are not scuffed or otherwise damaged. It's just way too much hassle to return them to the internet, and there is too high chance that you will have to. Also, depending on the installer, you will have a solid warranty from the installer, not some warehouse across the country!

In fact, I just tried to buy a set of four tires from Walmart through a third party vendor. I asked to see the tires before they were installed: Two were whitewalls and two were raised white letters.... not even the same tire make. I walked away... not my problem.

Time flies by . A buddy borrowed a set of rims from me awhile back to use as rollers while his Dart was in the body shop.
When he gave them back they had new tires on them. Still had the stickers. Checked the dates,14 years old. Hard as a rock too.:(
