Did anyone ever speak to you about Gods mosaic of life? In other words Gods plan that we just can't understand. Twenty years old, second year in the Naval academy, the brightest and the best on his way home to see his family in NY. Not to down play any other poor souls who lost there lives but….

May God be with them, and comfort the families. Sickeningly, the political buffoons like Schumer and Deblasio are already on the news spouting the need for more taxpayer money for "infrastructure". Let's first concern ourselves with the casualties.

With an estimated speed of 100 mph, I would venture to guess that the fault lies with the engineer. Of course, the union will blame everybody and everything but the engineer.

absolutely! what was the reason for going 100 when the limit was 55?

Kind of like the church that gets hit by the tornado. Live for today can be the only message.

That is terrible. One day your here the next your not .

My comment was the truth. But if that struck a nerve, this should really tick you off.............

Your comments on what is the "truth" are your opinions. As far as "hitting a nerve" they didn't bother me in the least,I'm sorry to tell you. I would offer a suggestion that you reconsider what you post at times outside the political forum, this being one of those times. I do like you better when we talk about cars and woman or woman and cars. LOL

Operator needs "time to convalesce" before giving a statement. Baloney. Most accurate statements are given immediately. Left the emergency room with a lawyer - right. We have gone through this before. Instead of addressing the criminal behavior of the employee, throw tons of Lib money at it and write new insane rules that have little to do with the cause. Trains are still safer than a drive down the 101.

The best statement yet? "I don't remember" what happened? If I was driving the Charger at 100mph and ran into a school bus or something, would the Police accept the fact that I don't remember what happened? Yikes!I doubt it.

Hi Stevie!
Yup, I saw that.
Shame huh?
All of them!
God Bless them all.
Human error.
Simply put, the engineer killed them.
Now he says he cant remember anything and he has lawyered up.

My deepest & heart felt condolences goes out to the families/loved ones of the now 8 dead
May they all RIP
& to all the many injured or all the people dealing with this unfortunate accident...

Sad it's been politicized already, that could have waited until after the investigation,
BUT that's the status quo today from current batch of greedy heartless politicians thou

There's a lot of "facts" I've heard that just don't make sense to me. First, I've heard that the train accelerated from about 50/60 MPH to 106 MPH about a minute before the wreck. I'm not a rail guy, but I find it hard to believe even a shorter passenger train can accelerate that fast. Second thing is the reports are not that the emergency brake was applied just before the accident, which sounds to me like someone realized something was wrong and hit the brakes. Who did that? And not we're hearing there is an unexplained impact point on the engine that indicates it was hit by a projectile of some sort.

I was wondering if there are more than one set of controls on these engines? Is the engineer the only one who can control the power or is there a second/fail safe set of controls that someone else could have accessed?

I come from a railroad family, my brother is a engineer for the U.P.6000 hp diesel electric is the standard on those locomotives. Like a car they will accelerate very quickly as long as it keeps traction. They also have technology to keep the wheels from breaking traction. If there was a conductor on board (doubtful) he would have access to an emercency stop feature only
Unless he was in the cab with the engineer.

My world calls the engineer the "operator. There was a crew of about 5. Conductors roam through the train. They pay little attention to track speed in my experience. Ever ask a flight attendant on a plane "Where are we?

The report of shots fired, or an object thrown at he cab causing the operator to speed up to"get away sounds like baloney. There is one sole liar responsible for this. Probably distracted. Needs to rot in jail if this is confirmed.
