That Tesla Semi that's supposed to be coming out this year (or next, more likely) looks pretty zippy. Spinning tires on a roll... (0-60 take 5 seconds).
 
Probably not that unusual. I wouldn't say those locomotives are abandoned...more like stored. Union Pacific has about 8,500 of them, it's likely that during periods of lower traffic (like between grain hauling seasons) there will be no need for all of them, so they get parked. A desert is a better place for storage than wet climates.
