Rare, but not valuable ? what to do ...................

I had the "canopy top". Was that required for the sunroof option? Rare vs desireable. A "three-on-the-tree" was rare. But not desireable.

My 74 RR Sunroof car had the "canopy" top. Was that required for the sunroof? I had to change the roof due to rollover damage from the PO, but still a sunroof. I'd like mine painted. Do-able? Opinions?

lol, I'd leave that car the way it came :) it would be both Rare and desireable.I know the trim on the roof is really hard to find...I think the canopy was only on cars in 1974 but even if it was out for 1973 as well it would still be really rare.

I had the same dilemma. My '71 GTX is GY9 Tawny Gold metallic, but it had the GOLD top combo.

It's my car, and I'm leaving it off. besides...the top is unavailable.

I've seriously thought about a very similar paint scheme except keeping orginal color on the 3/4 portion. I believe it would really look great. And keep the orinal stripe line intact. The only drawback I see is that it's a popular scheme nowadays and I'm skeered in 5 years it will look "dated".

Don't do it! Originality is king, leave it as is and love it for what it is and be happy in the knowledge that you have something unusual. I've seen plenty of cars that people did funky things to because of what was trendy (or so they thought) at the time only for a few years to pass and they, or the next owners, are madly trying to get it back to how it left the factory. I just think that having something no-one, or hardly anyone else has, is kinda cool.

I agree. Keep it original. Just my 2 cents

Build it like you want it so you will be happy with it, as long as it can be put back. On that car it is not going to affect the value.

If your going to duplicate the black car,i say go for it.The top can always restored to stock. The studs can be reinstalled, but YOU only live once:sunny::cool:

i turned my 73 vinyl top to a non vinyl top car - don't regret it...

Vinyl tops are making a come back here in calif...I auctually Like ,em!!!

I think vinyl tops really matter on the car,I prefer a hard top,Thats why I baught my 69 sport satellite project ,never saw a hard top on one before, and all the runners I found were vinyl w/ crunchy roof surprise, so I ended up w/ the less valuable sport satellite,so since u are in the same situation I say ditch the vinyl and go nuts!

Did they make any sunroof cars without the vinyl top option? Or was it just a way to cover hack work from the factory?

That's what people said about the '73 '74 Challengers. Give it time, they will come around too!
Even tho the later B bodies are going up in price, the Challengers and Cuda bodies didn't change since their introduction in late 69 and I think that's one of the reasons why they shot up in price before anything else from about 73 on. The E body was pretty popular and when the prices of the 70-71 went through the roof, the next alternative was the 72 up....

I have been told yes. In my other thread, someone mentioned it was available with or without a vinyl top.

I have a 73 RR coded with a sunroof, and stripe. Canopy roofs did not exist in 1973(on Roadrunners, anyway), so it had to not have vinyl.

Wow!, a '73 triple black 340, Road Runner, that is extremely rare,I've never seen any triple black '73 or '74's,
I'd do it back to stock, or it'll just look like all the other '73's (not that it's a bad thing) but it would really stand out at the shows.

here's a picture of my '74 360 Road Runner, in 1991 (no stripe) that was the original paint/vinyl top.

my 74 fender coded to black top, black car, black interior-
but I guess the codes for sun roof and red stripe cancelled the black top.
