The 73 I recently picked up had all new brakes on the rear at some time in the past. Too bad they didn't replace the leaking axle seals when they put brakes on it. The shoes were soaked in gear lube. Cleaned up all the hardware, and have a pair of axle seals coming from Summit racing with a new set of Summit house brand brake shoes and Lucas gear oil.
I hope the Summit brand shoes are decent quality. Starting to wonder if I should have gotten a brand name shoe?
I popped out the old seals, there is no shoulder to set the seal against. How do I determine how deep to set them?
I have Lucas 80w90 gear oil coming. It says that additional friction modifier is not needed. Is that true?
