I'm preparing to have a glass co install my front & rear window, in my 68 net. I've read threads about some using a 5/16 butyl rope for the rear window, while others say they used 3/8. I've also read about the two affecting how flush the molding sets. There doesn't seem to be a definite answer on which to use. I've looked online at the butyl rope ads, and notice, whether its 5/16 or 3/8 , that some are flat, and some are round. Though i don't know if that makes any diffference. Any advice guys ?

I like to use 5/16. They are made round but get flattened in the packaging and rolling them up. No big deal. Heat up the roll first before unwinding and when you push the glass down on it it will seal very nicely. Make sure the glass and your hands are very clean and grease free.

Either size works, some get mad when the trim won’t go on easily -3/8”. some get mad when there is a gap between the glass and trim -5/16”.

ya just cannot please everyone!
