Hi!
First time removing the trans I need some help,
This is my general plan: I tilt the engine/trans package down I bit, then support the back of the engine,
then try to pull the trans out with a floor-jack.
The thing I´m worried about is, when I pull the trans backwards the angel to the engine changes, because the whole thing is tilted..(and the floor-jack isn´t)
and the "front axl" of the trans gets stuck in the clutch assembly...
Sure this has been done many times before, so how do you guys do this?
Sending some pics of my progress so far.. IMG_1350.JPGIMG_1354.JPG

ok so no binding of the input shaft while lowering the trans?

You just have to be careful and not let the jack down too fast so the weight of the tranny would rest on the shaft. Pull back as you slowly let it down - you will feel when everything is good. I would probably move your car a bit so you are not fighting with that floor drain and the jack.

Make guide pins. A couple long bolts with the heads cut off can help with removal and install.

May want to think of unbolting the exhaust from manifolds. When I did this the exhaust pipes that come down the sides of trans kept getting hung up on bell housing. Also do not know if you have an H pipe somewhere under trans, so make sure you check your exhaust system for clearance. It can cause you a big headache when your are fighting a transmission in and out of car.

You will figure it out when ever it starts coming out.

Ok Thanks, I will keep that in mind, nice and easy...Good point about the drain!

God Damn that's clever! why didn't I think of that! So you remove the transmission to bellhousing bolts and put the "guide pins" instead right?

Mhm I did unbolt the exhaust so I could tilt the engine down, Don't plan to take the bellhousing down...yet no H-pipe

Remove the bottom 2 trans to bell housing bolts and use longer bolts (head cut off) and it will slide out just fine......and use them to reinstall the trans also, soooo much easier!

Speaking of drain, a spare yoke wired on can stop the gear lube from leaking out the tail housing

That's the ticket!

If you can remove the shifter handle and have clearence to drop the trans with the shifter atached do it other wise remove the shifter and linkage.

Good idea!

Don't let that A833 tranny fall off the jack, it is one heavy SOB!!........................................MO

Drain the gearbox oil before you do anything!!! :D

yepp i´ll try to avoid that, I've made a "board" attached to the jack to try and balance it!, se the pic above..

So I've made some progress since last time, the guide pins worked perfect!

The trans smoothly slided down the pins, until it stopped!:icon_mad:
The mounting plate of the gearshift had stopped it! Had to be removed,
Now to the problem, the mounting plate is attached with three hex key bolts with Very, very round insides!

My first attempt will be to try and remove the bolts with some sort of special toll, broker screw remover etc..if all that fails I will try and cut the damn thing of with a
saber saw! what do you think of that good, bad other ideas are welcome.

Chances are those bolts holding the shifter plate will be loctited in place. Be careful using heat from a blow torch - maybe aim the flame directly into the hex entry on each bolt to maybe loosen the glue. A soft hammer (Copper/Hide) might be useful to tap the block around some.

yes i´ll keep that in mind if I use heat, might bee a good idea..I´m afraid that the Hex is to far gone to be screwed out with a allenkey,
I´ve got a tips for using a little to big Torx and hammer in place, might try that..

Oil pan resting on the drag link? Might need to drop it.
Shorten those pins and round the off the ends. 2" will allow the input shaft clear the crank flange and spline from the disc I believe.
Looks like someone failed to get the bolts out of the adapter before. May have to drill the heads off.
