I was curious what would be the easiest cheapest way to remove my rear window on my 69 satellite w/o damaging it,so hitting it with a hammer is out of the question,I have heard piano wire or guitar string and saw it out, will it work?

Hey Ben, that is how I did mine, piano wire attached to a wooden block on one end and loose on the other. pass the loose end through around the edge of the glass and attach it to another block of wood, leaving about 18" in between the blocks. The wire will have to be secured well to the blocks so as not to go flying off and cutting you or your helper while you are pulling it around the glass. Have some small wood shims handy to put between the glass and the frame when you can so as not to let the glass settle back into place. Good luck.

Thanks Matt you are the man,I also heard I should do it on a hot day and spray the stripping with pb blaster to soften it up? Does this make a difference?

ben there is a tool you can get at your local auto store made just for cutting uder your window.can't get a pic of it right now but it has a 90 degree "blade" mounted into a handle with a "T" pull handle attached to it.that's what i used to take my window out of my 69RR.the guys at the store should know what you need and it's not that expensive.using the piano wire method is a two person job and this tool you can do it all by yourself.Just make sure you cleaned out as much window sealant from the channel before.

Whatever you do, do not pry on the glass at all. I use the piano wire and two blocks as well, and it works great. One time around should do it. Make sure it is completely free and lift if straight out. If you have to twist it or flex it of pull it in any manner, you will crack it. This old glass does not like stress.

Good luck.

I used WD40 as it seems to soften and eat-up the sealant. Also i used the smallest stainless-steel aircraft cable I could find as a braided wire has a more agressive cut. I also had to do it myself, using long cables, as my step-kids, [17 and 23 years old] were too busy playing "World of war-crack". My wife said I was an "asshole" for asking them to "get up off their asses" and help me, for the third time.
