I have a 65 Coronet with a 318 poly that I have rebuilt. Bought a new engine harness from Year One but it didn't include the fusible link that runs off the starter relay, and they don't have one for a 65. I'm thinking about replacing it with a fuse and holder.

Anybody have any idea what size wire and fuse I need? I think the alternator is a 60 amp.

Classic Industries has fusible links for like $20.

Autozone, Oreillys or Napa all have them.

I didn't see one for a 65, just 66 and up. They may work, but I don't know if the gauges were different. Probably just the connectors?

Texas69Bee, thanks for the link. I have seen the MAD site. But I'm really thinking of switching to a fuse. Originality is not an issue and I don't like the idea of a wire that will just burn up.

I'd go fuse but be careful in choosing the holder as it has been reported that some off shore types have poor connections and will arc after a time. This is especially true of the push in two prong type with the snap cover that keeps water out. Can't beat a good Buss type glass fuse and holder or a bridging blade type that screws in the holder. Don't forget a spare fuse.
Like this type mega fuse

fusible links are available at any parts stores and they wont blow instantly like a regular fuse will, they do make time delay auto fuses also (slow blow)
