I am new to B bodies but not to Mopars, I have a factory service manual but cannot figure out a couple of vacuum lines and wiring oddities I have found in the engine bay. I bought my ‘67 Barracudas in ‘91 and still have them but they did not have near the electrical voodoo going on as this SSP I just bought.
There at two side-by-side vacuum lines entering the engine bay through the passenger side firewall, are these HVAC vacuum sources? What do both ends of each line connect to?
A small diameter vacuum line that branches off the same vacuum source for the power brake booster (rear of intake manifold). There is a factory looking plastic “T” at the end of the line. I cannot find what this connects to in the engine bay.
An aftermarket in-line fuse was installed between a heavy gauge red wire, that enters the factory engine bay harness, and the starter relay. Could this be an attempt to bypass the alternator to amp gauge connection? The amp gauge seems to work, the needle rests a bit on the “C” side of center. The firewall connections are not burned.
There is also a burned heavy gauge orange/red wire under the dash that I’m still trying to chase AND a burn mark in the white connector block that exits the steering column under the dash. It reminds me of my dads ‘74 D200, same burned connector. Are those burns symptomatic of the previously mentioned alternator to amp guage issues?
Speaking of the starter relay, the PO installed one starter relay adjacent to to another. What purpose could this second relay have other than PO being too lazy to remove the first relay because it died? All of the wires are connected to the second relay.
The wiper motor, I believe it’s a three speed wiper based on the fender tag codes, has multiple wires cut short, the wipers do not work properly, not surprising. Is there a known and common issue with this particular wiper motor? Or someone got crazy with the nippers?
I plan to replace wires and wiring harnesses where necessary and figuring out which method I like the best to avoid an alternator/amp gauge meltdown but in the meantime I want to sort out these burn issues and vacuum lines.
By the way, the car starts and runs but I’m not driving it till all of these wires and vacuum lines are sorted.
Thanks for any help.
