Well I have the bad panel removed on my 67 belverdere and I have these 3 pieces to fix it.The taillight section is what I'm worried about, not really sure how I should go about doing it.The other thing is the wheel lip on the new panels the same as stock,I remember reading that they had to be reworked. My other side has the same wheel lip rot so I don,t have a reference.Does anyone know of any threads of someone fixing their 1/4,s on a 67.

some of that stuff you just have to fit and hammer n dolly to make it look right. Hard to give suggestions on what to do properly. Been doing the trade since 1983, so for me, that would be easy. The body trade isn't usually something you can just tell someone what to do, and they can do it like a pro. good luck.

I know is hard to tell someone on a computer,I,ve done some panel replacing but never a taillight section like this with so many curves and bends to try and line it up.I,ll just bite the bullet and dive in and hope for the best,if not maybe it will be a G. barris custom lol.I was just hoping someone had some tidbits of help on the matter.

You could look at my build thread. It is a 66 Coronet. Different lines on the cars though. My question would be do you really need to change the tail light area? How bad is it? If you do, then I would think all the lines and curves would help position it properly. But if you can get away just installing the sides it will be a lot less work. As for the reworking on these panels, I know on mine the lines were not as crisp as factory. I did do a little hammer and dolly action, but I didn't get carried away as I'm building a driver.

Mine will be just a driver as well. The taillight section is a mess,is patched all over the place, tailight sits a little crooked.I owned the car in 1986 and I know it got backed into by a truck and did some good damage by the gas tank filler area,I sold it and it never saw the road again but someone patched it up baddly and I bought it back in 1992 for $100.00 and has been on the back burner till now.I did drive it now and then but was never happy with that 1/4.Now I have better skills to try and tackle this.

You should be able to replace the end of the quarter without to much trouble. It will take a lot of careful measuring and patience. I would make the cut line on the replacement part square to the extension housing flange and then measure back on the quarter panel and make my lines. If the car is to messed up you can take a measurement from the door opening on the good side so you have an overall length and go from there. I hope this makes sense! Good luck with the project and enjoy the rain....

Spot welds are the usual on putting those panels together. Really best, especially at the tail light area, to look it over good, to see where the original spot welds are. You can mark each spot weld, and work up the gameplan, on how you want to remove the old panel...by cutting out the spot welds...and simply use the same locations to fasten the new panel. Just don't do like some, and cut through both panels. Spot weld cutters...use a small guide hole, then only cut the outer panel to free it, and the inner panel solid to re-weld to.

At the light area, if it's still damaged, a bunch easier to straighten it, once the outer panel is off.

Thanks for some ideas, always nice to hash things around a bit.I think I will remove the gas tank so I don,t explode and have been looking where the trunk extension spot welds are so I can replace it as there is some rust of course.I,m thinking with the new trunk extension will help with guiding the new panels together.
