My horn became intermittent this weekend, so I tackled troubleshooting.

I'll spare you all the details other than I pulled the steering wheel and DeOxIt wiped everything really well. The Horn Switch could probably be replaced. I took an emery board and cleaned it up well, and pushing with my fingers as hard as I can it looks like it is making contact, but the phenolic board looks like it has cracks, etc.

Anyhow, looked around for a horn switch on line. I see the usual eBay NOS ones for $70 and up, but did not notice any repo items.

Any recommendation on where to order a new horn switch? I'll also browse the Layson restorations catalog tonight. Thanks.

Check out at the relay to make sure it's not making contact. Make sure that's the problem for sure before spending.

Clean the connections out under the hood too.

He's referring to the contact ring under the steering wheel ? Anyway, check the horn itself first. You can adjust it.

I can short the horn switch wire to the wheel hub and get a reliable horn 'beep'.

What has happened is the insulated phenolic board inside the switch has cracked where the screw heads mount. I suppose I can open up the screw access holes and use a plastic washer as a fix? I just thought that perhaps there was a repo, or good used one sourced out there somewhere.

As for adjustment, I assume you mean the horn contact ring can be adjusted?

The phenolic board has a copper coating on the bottom side that is wired to the horn and makes contact with a roller wheel underneath it. This is the horn circuit. If you go to an electronics hobby shop or somewhere like Radio Shack you can buy a small blank of circuit board material and cut out a new board. The cracks in yours are what's not allowing a complete circuit.

It's fixed. Bought a NOS horn switch from Central Jersey Motor Parts. Cost was $74. Shipped fast; arrived two days after order.

Like my wife says, if a road runner doesn't go beep beep it's just a satellite.

Horns in road runner cars get a workout sometimes. People at shows ask to hear the beep beep often. Thanks for the replies.
