Robin Williams won't be down

It has to do w/ mental illness. It has nothing to do w/ being a 'coward' or 'weak'.

It's like saying people who die from cancer have decided they're too weak to live.

Have you ever had cancer take a family member? One that fought their *** off to live? That is true strength.

I was trying to stay out of this.

First off RIP Mr. Williams, he is one of the first actors that I ever remembered.

Second, in our day and age there is no excuse for actions like this. It is selfish. I have no sympathy for drug addicts, no even the one's in my life. They make a conscious choice to swallow that pill or stick that needle in their arm. Addiction is an excuse. Me, I'm an alcoholic, 3rd generation on one side, 4th generation on the other. I chose to control my addiction rather then it control me. Nobody is forced to do drugs except by their own psyche.

To choose suicide over help is selfish. What about his daughter, his wife, his other family and friends? By killing himself he changed all their lives. There's always a choice.

There are certain genes that predispose some individuals to suicidal tendencies. There are also chemicals that will induce suicidal thoughts. Chemical imbalances in the brain cause suicide. There's not much 'choice' in that...

By definition, a healthy person would not ever consider suicide, correct? Why then is no one admitting that he was sick?

Yep, two grandparents...my mom is one of .05% of the population who has survived having 3 different forms of it, and has had tissue samples sent to the Mayo Clinic for analyses to be run.

It's luck of the draw whether one lives or dies from cancer. There's no 'choice' in it.

Fella's.........How about instead of turning this into a keyboard diagnosis and/or the rights and wrongs of one one's personal beliefs, we just let the thread roll in honor of a truly great man, and how he inspired a lot of us over the years....Pretty sure folks would rather like to reminisce about the man vs. watching a pissing match between members ideals. Take it off-line if you need to duke it out.

Don't engage him, I've already reported to the site for trolling to incite an argument, he's only trying to do what he always does, just let him rant.

What? Trolling? There's a lot of negativity here about a misunderstood issue.

I've been trying to keep it respectful for someone that I admire, but the whole 'weak' and 'coward' thing is uncalled for and lacks any iota of class.

I'm trying to get people to realize that there are other explanations than what they think is correct.

Amen to that!! Same thing happening on the Tony Stewart thread. Everyone has their opinion but no one has ALL the facts. It takes two to argue and this is the wrong place to argue.

Cheers Prop! Couldn't have said this better myself

Major bummer, I was walking out to my garage and heard that he died. It took me a few moments to actually process what happened and how he died. I had a friend commit suicide last year, he was one of the most energetic people I have ever known. His parents put him on depressants and he was never the same, they took him off after a few weeks. The last time I saw him he looked miserable, it was the first time I realized that he may of had a real problem. A couple of weeks later I was coming home from work and my mom called me to say what had happened. Depression is a real disease that psychologically drags people down to their worst point, until they can take it no more. I feel very sorry for Mr Williams and his family, what they are going through must be terrible

"it takes a lot of courage to commit suicide" "Suicide is imho the most selfish act to be done"
Wow how bout that two equally opposite and equally WRONG answers. It really shows that most people misunderstand the diagnosis of depression. Suicide is succumbing to an illness, it is not courageous, nor is it cowardly. The disease destroys the patent until there is nothing left, at that point people begin to think of killing themselves. The best answer I have ever herd about suicide comes from ex heroine addicts. One side effect of the drug withdraw, is depression, and a lot of people commit suicide. When they are talking about it they talk about living every day with an unending feeling of sickness and unhappiness. It really makes one think about precious life is and that it should be cherished every day.

Nothing mentioned yet about his being a classically trained actor. He and the late actor, Christopher Reeves/Superman, were the best of friends and were 2 out of some 150 candidates to be accepted to the prestigious New York Julliard Actors School. According to reports, after Reeves tragic Horse accident, it was Robin that wound up taking care of the majority of the medical bills for the Reeves Family until his passing a few years back. That is a Man who is totally worthy of a seat at Gods right hand. RIP Robin. I for one will miss your comedic genius. You and Jonathan can now ad-lib to your hearts content. Two of the best that will ever be..cr8crshr/Tuck

So true. I remember reading an interview with Pam Dawber during the later years of Mork & Mindy. She basically said that you just sat back & watched Robin & Jonathan go nuts!

Those of you saying he's 'weak'...what have you done?

Let's see. I wake each and every morning thanking Jesus for another day here. I start my day trying to control my diabeties, my stage 3 kidney failure and live with an amputation. I never give up and I never will. To say a man has done so much because he had millions of dollars is bull crap. I live with issues everyday and sometime I think why me? Then I get to meet someone who is just found out they are diabetic and I get to tell them my story and how I have worked to contain it.

I do not have to justify my blessings to you or anyone else.

God Bless.

I'm not one to judge. I don't know what was going on in his head. Suicide is neither cowardly nor brave. It simply is what it is. In some cultures it is considered honourable in others it isn't.

Whether one believes or not, it's always good to remember Matthew 7, 1

" Judge not, that ye be not judged.2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?"

"Trolling to incite an argument". Well put.

Yea, Winters and Williams together, what a combo. Hard to equal these days.

R.I.P. Robin. You were brilliant, simply brilliant. And we can all remember more than once when you brightened our day by making us laugh - and for that we are grateful.

Thing is, physical issues are a lot easier than mental issues.

Next what dude? So by your "logic" Sandy Hook was predisposed because a healthy person would never do that, correct?

Prop always stepping in to be the voice of reason. lol

I will never denounce what that man has done. I will never get over him being the Genie when I was young and then being the dirty comedian that bent his hairy *** arm in half, stuck his mouth on it and explained how going down on a woman really was. LOL. Again, RIP Mr. Williams.

Simply put, yes. Sandy Hook specifically, no. His impulse could've been released any number of ways.

OH REALLY?!!! Just wait until you start with the physical problems. You'll find that there are a great deal of mental issues too.

That means you will have BOTH. Maybe mental issues alone might be easier to deal with than both.

Na-NO Na-NO.

I've have been well acquainted with three people that committed active suicide.
(As opposed to passive where someone just seem to have a death wish with destructive life habits).
One thing that I want to warn others about, I did not see it coming in any of those cases.
Be warned to watch better than I did to those you care for. You won't see it coming.
That being said, if someone wants to do it, is there really anything I can do?
