Hey everyone. Mrs. Ghost and I ran into an issue last evening concerning our ROKU account. For those who don't know, ROKU is a free streaming service for TV and Movies with 100's of channels. Anyway, the box was working fine but the Roku Streaming Stick was not. ( look it up). So my wife gave me a number to call that was supposed to be ROKU support. I got some Indian dude on the phone who immediately asked for our account associated e-mail address and the password. Hmmm.....I said nope. He says he will call me back at our home number because it's a bad connection. So he calls back from an UNKNOWN number, hmmm...nope. I tell him what the issue is and he fumbles around for a few seconds and then informs me that our " subscription" has run out and must be renewed. hmmmm...nope. He tells me he needs 150 bucks and he will have it all working in a few minutes. hmmm...nope. So I explained that I knew that it's a free service and there is no payment needed other than a card on file so you can purchase a pay channel if need be. Click...he's gone.
I looked up the website and chatted online with a ROKU agent who told me the number I had dialed was bogus. He got us straightened out right away too. # 1-800-226-2278. If you use Roku, beware!

Don't you just wish you could "explain" this to the guy on the phone.... in person? I GUARANTEE there are dozens of sweet little old ladies this guy has taken advantage of.

I have seen the ROKU devices in stores but I didn't know you got free channels, I thought you had to pay like you would with cable and such.

You can usually sniff them out pretty quickly, it's the guys that steal your identity that pose the big threat. As soon as they start asking for card #s or passwords I tell them to suck %& $*&%.

did your wife get the number using a google search? I use Roku I'm pretty sure it's free, i only pay for Netflix/Amazon and hbo now separately plus broadband connection.

I don't know what ROKU is BUT I use an Android box with the Kodi app on it. I can stream ANY episode of any TV program that has ever existed as well as any (including currently in the theatre) movies.

Ya buy the box and yer done - ZERO fees.

The downside - no "live" programming (well, its "available" but unreliable)

Nope. only if you decide that you want to pay for a premium channel or a movie that is like new and in theatres. There are several news channels, british TV, Netflix, amazon, hulu, etc...

Damn scammer scumbags, always something new...

I do love :icon_fU: messing with them :icon_fU: If them types do call...
My BS meter is pretty sensitive/keyed in to the scammers,
I can usually spot them right off...

Hey did you know some African Prince e-mailed me &
said he wants to give me $1,000,000 all he needs is my SS#
& my personal contact information

The FBI has a link & web page to report them too,
I use to know it by heart...
Just look it up, you know how, give them any #'s or names etc.
You can do a Google search of the phone # too,
sometime or usually if it's a scam that's been going on,
for any period of time it will be reported,
then #'s & routines, usually shows up in a day or so,
noted as such/scams...

Thanks for sharing Ghost

I don't want to sound racist or anything, because I'm not. But every damn time I get a phone call from a scammer, they're always indians. What the hell?

Ransom Virus/malware, worm embedded of some sort,
it's been going around a few sites,
don't open anything you don't know 100%, especially in any e-mail,
just send to delete or directly to spam so
hopefully the anti-virus/malware ransomware software
will not allow it in the next time

I read a few big Hospitals, Medical facilities & govt. facilities got hit
the past week in the US & Calif. even in Silicon Valley...

Just got a call said they would lower interest rate to 0% for 6 months on my credit cards because the Fed was raising interest rates. How would they do that without my credit card account numbers? Of course they would want my expiration and 3 digit code. Not a chance.
