Seat belts

I suspect my seat belts in the front of my 68 Sport Sat have been put on the wrong way.
The retractable part is on the door side and the long side with belt buckle is console side. Logically shouldn't they be the other way around so the retractable part can hook up to the shoulder belt hanging from the top?

Nope the retractable part goes on the door side. The shoulder belt just clips to one of the male belts coming from the tunnel. Kind of a weird design and probably the reason I've never actually seen one used.

Use mine all the time. There are retainers at head liner when not in use.
