Installing self adjusters in place of the police special style of manually adjusting. Hopeful this may alleviate some of the uneven braking that occurs with these drum brakes. What are your experience with this?

Uneven braking, wet brake pulling, fading :eek:never goes away with current non-asbestos lining. Disc brake conversion only total solution. Safer too !

police special style of manually adjusting.

What is the manual style??... I always have overactive self adjusters and find myself constantly backing one of them back down to loosen up.

11x3 front.11x2 1/2 rear. Old style every so often have to adjust them outward towards the inner drum to accommodate for brake shoe wear. Difficult to get even braking almost inevitability pulls to one side. Recently seen nick, from nicks garage speaking about it.

yeah i agree but really don't drive it enough or want to change it over to the better disc brake setups

Lol, never have had a problem. Crank them until lockup, back off ‘X’ number of clicks, done. I just go for same felt drag. Way less to go wrong IMHO.

^^^^^ My old school auto shop teacher taught 8 clicks off. Guess I'm showing my age..

Made me think,,I've been told I'm more than a few clicks off....Many times !

Mine pulls slightly after warm up as well and I had considered self adjusters until someone on this site said that they will wear much more quickly, so I abandoned that idea and just live with it.

might sound funny, but does anyone remember Blue streak brake shoes?
supposedly bitd those were the best you could get for our cars?
do they still sell those?
pretty sure its the same company that made blue streak points as well.

I'm totally fine with drums, I don't drive my vintage-overpriced-restored car like a meth addict....I drive my 2018 challenger R/T like a meth addict instead.

Lol! I always thought that was one of the requirements, to own a Mopar!

11 by 3 police brakes, is what I have in the rear, with self adjusters. Need to be in decent shape to adjust, adjusting done going in reverse...slam on brakes.:D
I've only adjusted mine 'close', and leave it alone. Braking is good, and straight.

Remember those 'olden days', lol, manual adjust. Kinda of a pain, like clockwork have to re-adjust, over and over.
Pretty sure my shoes are Raybestos...point being, material used is new and improved. I'll report back, in a few years!
