who all has under gone a shoulder repair if major please send an email thanks .

My dad did....doctor kept saying bursitis but it kept getting worse so he went to another doctor who found the problem. He said it wouldn't have been much longer until a total replacement would have been needed. The socket was split pretty bad. I didn't send a PM since it wasn't for me but I know a bit about it from him. After the surgery and healing, he could only lift his upper arm 90 degrees but I don't think he did very much rehab if any. That's the way he was....

I've had both rotator cuffs repaired in the last year and a half. One surgery was under an hour, the other over 2 hours. Not as bad as I was told it would be. Worst part was the first couple of weeks and having to wear a sling. I have no pain now, strength is not 100%, maybe never will be.

I was a repeat dislocator until I had to have mine rebuilt, this was 20+ years ago. I guess mine was pretty bad as I have 4 screws in it. I had some of the most beautiful colors in my bruises for the first couple weeks in my armpit, didn't start rehab till after a month. That lasted for the next 6 months, hurt like a mofo doing rehab, worse then the post-op pain! I never regained full motion of it, but I never planned on being a big league pitcher, but I have enough mobility to do most anything beside throwing. I feel like a girl throw. The VA gave me 30% for it. What's you need to know?

In the 70's I cut two tendons in my left hand and the rehab for that was tough enough. The therapist (the rapist) had me on my knees more than a few times! No sexual innuendos please :D

right they make you beg like a dogie :rofl::rofl::rofl::eek:

finally got my MRI now waiting for surgeons decisions sounds pretty bad a lot and all over now the wait is on and still waiting for MRI on knee :(

My brother had orthroscopic shoulder surgery. I think for his rotator cuff. Surgery wasn't a big deal it was the rehab that took a very long time. I believe he was rehabbing himself with exercise specific motions for about a year. Also think it came out pretty good.

That's why I call them "physical terrorist"!
Well, she got my hand back 98% which surprises me. The only thing I can't do is make a peace sign with both the index finger and the middle standing straight up. The middle finger is about 45 degrees to the index finger....

I've had 2 surgeries on my left shoulder. First at 18 rotator cuff, second at 21, was a total rebuild of the left socket. Six months in a sling and rehab. It started in football freshman year. First few times I remember my lineman coach saying come on ya puss shake it off. I never realized how bad it was. He would have lost his job today I had dislocated both probably twice before I went to the doctor. I never told my parents, just kinda blew it off. Between football, boxing, wrestling, weight lifting and a little rodeo, they were knocked out twenty times. After my second surgery my doc says if you keep this up you'll lose the use of that arm. 36 years later, every once in a while it feels like a knife in my shoulder if I tweak it. I've got to say I took Dr. Waldmans advice, and really haven't had any problems.

Snakeyes,
I had bilateral knee replacement (both at once) 10 years ago. I was bone on bone with no cartilage in both knees. They would swell up like basketballs and ache all night long. My knees were so worn out that I was becoming "bowlegged as a cowboy". My decision to have knee surgery was one of the best decisions of my life. I worked very hard during rehab to get 90% of range of motion in my knees. I can squat like a catcher, kneel on the floor, "sit legs crossed Indian style", lift and carry heavy items and walk long distances all with out pain. Just no jumping or running.

I also had my left shoulder replaced 11 months ago. I had put that surgery off for the last five years. But the pain got too great and I could not sleep at night. Plus I could not lift more than 30lbs over my head. The MRIs revealed that my shoulder socket was so worn that the ball of my arm was wearing backwards towards my shoulder blade. And there were large formations of arthritis running down the arm. I guess that's what happens when you break your arm throwing a baseball too hard at 13 years old and continuing to pitch thru High School, College and Beyond.
Well I'm almost a year out since shoulder surgery and all I can say is, it's better than before. I can sleep at night, have almost full range of motion, but the shoulder needs more time to strengthen. I have no weight restrictions and I see my orthopedic surgeon in two weeks to discuss my progress. The rotator cuff is still painful but everything I read about shoulder surgery rehab it takes about a year to get full range of motion and little pain. Of coarse I do not expect zero pain since my shoulder socket could not be replaced because it was worn out too large and they do not make a socket large enough. So the surgeon had to use the largest ball on my arm that would fit into my worn socket. He said I will still have pain in the shoulder because the new ball on my arm will be in full contact with my socket bone. I will probably have to have another shoulder surgery in the future (5-10years) to replace the worn socket when one becomes available. PM me if you would like to know more info regarding what to expect after surgery.

Damaged( severely dislocated ) my right shoulder in a wrestling match in High School. Never went to a doctor about it but could no longer throw a ball or shoot a basket. But I didn't figure I would be doing that stuff after graduation anyway so I did nothing about it. Fast forward 43 years. Shoulder in constant pain for the last few years. Could hear grinding in the joint just moving my arm. Just the weight of my arm was painful. So after years of looking at MRI's and X-rays that said I had degenerative arthritis and no cartilage left I decided to just do a joint replacement. The pain went away quickly. But I could not raise my arm at all. Absolutely no strength in my arm. Went through PT to stretch my arm again and regain almost total range of motion that I had before, but again, muscle strength was gone. It has taken a couple of years to slowly get most of my original strength back. Should have done it years ago. The longer you wait, the older and weaker you get and the longer it takes to heal. My advice is to get a good Orthopedic Surgeon and get it done. The longer you wait, the worse your chances are for a quick and full recovery.

Prayers for You Snake.

Dang man, that's a bummer. I hope it all works out in a good way though. Be well sir!

Snake,
I feel your pain. As MoparLeo stated, find an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in shoulders. My orthopedic surgeon averaged over two shoulder replacement surgeries a week. Most surgeons don't do one a month. Also ask the surgeon if you could talk with a couple of his past shoulder replacement patients.
Good luck!

the one I have is suppose to be the best of the best shoulder surg. does a lot of our sports team ,thanks
