So I had to get a new center Holley 2300 for my Six Pack setup. Prior to this the car ran fine with no issues. Now that the new Holley is on, the car surges when cruising steady at 40mph and 50mph, and when the road goes uphill you can feel the car floundering going uphill. With the headers open even the exhaust note sounds different with little erratic pops being heard.
I've double checked the idle mixture and it's at optimum vacuum (not like its an issue when cruising, but). Double the checked the timing and it's still the same as before. Double checked the float levels and they are dead on, no fuel dripping through the booster venturis. I run the Revnnator ECU so I don't run vacuum advance at advice of RT Garage, so not vacuum advance issue. No vacuum leaks.
I had to retune the new center carb for how the old one was, so I swapped in different jets. I had to really pry the fuel bowl off the new carb. I'm wondering if I somehow damaged the PV diaphragm and its fluttering open/closed while I'm cruising. Also, that damn bowl vent baffle always falls off and I always forget which way it goes on. Could this be a problem if it's on wrong? Doesn't seem so.
Anything else to check before I take the carbs off and check the PV diaphragm?
