Is it the same mechanism in 70 to 74 cudas/challengers as 73 roadrunners
 
I'm going to guess yes only because I see no reason why they would change it...even between B and E bodies.
 
Yes they are the same 71-74 B & E body slap stik. 70 was one year only mish mash of linkages. I love the slap stik setup, nice ratchet shift with lock out. Very slick for stock.
 
70 handle was different. Ball style with round chrome stem.

71-late 73 was "T" handle.

Late 74 went back to a 70 style handle.
 
I agree- the factory ratchet shifter is often overlooked as a super cool and functional item.
 
T handles on those were my choice. Also, the threads in the 70 handle were pretty fine and seems like they would not last for very long and the button would pop out....
 
...and the T handles tended to break pretty easy at the bottom where the screw is.
