Can anyone shed some light on the installation of one of hood scoops? Namely, is it common that you need to do alot of reshaping to fit the hood profile? I have gaps you can fit your hand under. This is max wede going on a 64 savoy hood. Just curious if this is the norm before I break out the power tools.

Wow those are some big gaps if you say can fit your hand under...something wrong there. My 65 scoop was a bolt on with no gaps..just a shitty glass job LOL.
Can you post a picture?

My 63 scoop for the 63 Max wedge fits perfect.

I know what you mean by this. I make some glass parts on the side to scoops and hoods. don't have much in a lot of things but just enough to let me make something when I get time. have made some scoops to and I leave extra on the bottom so they can shape it to the hood. I even put a note in there to let them know that. but they think that the part should just be made and fit perfect even though all hoods are different. so the scoop would need shape to fit. these people just don't know. not going to make a mold for a scoop that would fit one hood only. you'd have around 30-40 molds of just that scoop for all the different hoods. so I know where your coming from. mike

Also, we can't forget the fact that the 63-64 Plymouth hood has a very slight arch to it and they also have those 2 bumps in the hood that would be keeping any hood scoop up in the air.

I put on of these scoops on a 63 Dodge and I had to do major shaping to get it right. I have no idea who's scoop it was since it was handed to me to put on, but in the end it was fine. The worst part is sanding the glass and getting fibers everywhere. Wear a dust mask and a tyvek suit or you'll be itching for hours! Other than the mess it was easy to do.

You didn't mention about wheather in the pictures, if the scoop is tightened down yet or is it just sitting on the hood.
If you look at how the scoop is constructed on the inside, it has about 3/8" of an area that you can shape if you need to. We make them that way because all hoods are not flat. There is some give to the scoop , but not that much. You will have to form it some. BE a hot rodder, you can do it. That scoop cost you probably $310 off of ebay and that was with free shipping. Joey "The Tinman's" scoop will cost approx , $1200-$1800. I have been selling this scoop since 1995. Larry @ Sled City www.sledcityevents.com We supplied the Glass hood, hood scoop and bumpers for the "Mopar Muscle" N/SS 64 Dodge. It was a medium Max Wedge scoop. We also have a tall version plus hemi scoops.

It was tightened down. I bought this direct from you Larry not off ebay. I just didn't want to start grinding and sanding on this scoop if the issue maybe something else.(hood twisted?) I wanted input from others that have installed these things before.

This was this input I was looking for Thanks! I was just concerned whether this was normal. I've never done this type of modification before and didn't want to screw up an expensive piece.
