Son of Ghost is getting his PHD in Theoretical Nuclear Physics!

A PHD in theory ... I wonder if you can get a Phd in "conspriracy theory"

I certainly understand your sense of humor on this topic...cute and funny..
But seeing the depth of study to understand Quantum Mechanics, String theory, Spooky dark matter etc...it is simply not like studying the mating habits of elephants etc as there is only CERN and CERNs research scientists who are on this "track" to gather data.
I only wish I too had the fortitude, persistence and ambition to achieve such lofty goals but sadly, I couldn't.
And the dropout percentage of PhD students in the US is higher, roughly 50%, or half.

....again, such a great achievement by Ghostriders son...

The observation of beam spin asymmetries in two-pion production in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering off an unpolarized proton target is reported for the first time. The data presented here were taken in the fall of 2018 with the CLAS12 spectrometer using a 10.6 GeV longitudinally spin polarized electron beam delivered by CEBAF at JLab. The measured asymmetries provide the first observation of a signal that can be used to extract the PDF e(x) in a collinear framework and the helicity-dependent two-pion fragmentation function G ⊥ 1 .

Congratulations to you and your son. It takes a lot of work on both the parents' and the students part to get a PhD. I have a daughter with a PhD in engineering specializing in Combustion. It took a lot of work on her part and understanding and support from us.

This morning my duties included troubleshooting 2 of our 3 "temperature robots" that take a thermal imaging temperature of folks as they enter and detect if they are wearing a mask or not.

...then I got to convince the contract copier guy that our "big" machine actually did have a problem (fuser) and it was not his perceived power fluctuations from our outlets that were causing it to take 4 hours to warm up. (remember he's the copier specialist)

I'm just a simple IT guy with only a HS education, but I work with several people with PH.D degrees. I get to convince them that I know what I'm talking about and what may or may not be in their interest as well. Generally, if they recognize that I'm trying to do what they hired me to do, things go OK.

YUP, with Ghostrider and his wonderful wife, I am certain this young man has his "tools" in order...
yeah his "Tools" are in order but his home is not. Although, he swears that he knows where everything is and gets upset when anything is moved. He used to get really annoyed if we moved the furniture around. We had to tell him first and let him get used to the idea for a couple of days. lol He calls it well controlled chaos. Also that in one of the OTHER multiverses his stuff is neat and tidy.
 
Well, that depends on what one thinks is the right, or most useful way of putting that knowledge to work. For him personally he will have nothing at all to do with the government or the military. Both of which have been courting him since age 14. They have offered him just about everything but the kitchen sink, and he has turned them down flat. So far. He intends to continue research at, and for, a large university. He wants to further the understanding of the universe, the unification of the Grand Theories and the understanding of space / time as it relates to human kind. You know...just fooling about...lol.. This paper amounts to him having noticed, at the age of 16, that there was a discrepancy in spin behaviors. All of this world wide collaboration came out of that. This is his project all of the way. He took his observations and created all of this in order to prove he was right. In doing so he has brought forth a new dynamic in particle physics heretofore unnoticed by anyone. Including Einstein. That's how monumental this work is.

He has read about way too many scientists allowing their genius to be used to kill people by the millions. He wants no parts of that. period. He's also humble about his gifts. He just says, " Well, I'm just doing what I do Dad." He says that maybe some little thing he gets right might be the stepping stone to something big that another scientist can bring forth. We are all in this together.
