speedometer gauge maintenance

Is there any type of lubrication that needs to be done with a speedometer guage? Asking because i picked up a guage cluster and would like to do any maintenance before it goes into a dash.

Am curious about this myself.... mine hasn't moved in 45 years and i'm afraid gears will just turn to dust if i don't take it apart and make sure it's all cleaned and lubed first.

There is a small oil hole on the back of the speedometer where the cable connects to oil the bearing

I had a speedo shop tell me years ago to use vasoline to lube the cable after a good cleaning and to pack the bushing head too.
Has helped me for years on bouncing needles.
