Any tips how to get that little C clip inside that seal and inside this adapter?

    It’s off a 66 Belvedere big block with 727.

Brewers have a little tool for that job. If you can operate a lathe it would be easy to make.
The seal is directional - the lip goes toward were the oil will be.

The seal goes in with the lip facing the inside of the trans, and then the clip goes in resting against the seal. The clip does not go inside of the seal. Push the clip into the hole, split side down, until it is below the surface, then using a deep socket that will fit inside the hole, rotate it and push it down into position. So again, push the clip into the hole vertically, then once it is below the surface, rotate it until it is perpendicular to the hole. A socket that just fits into the hole works best to get it rotated, and pushed into place. I do this all the time with piston pin clips.

I was starting to think no way that clip went inside that seal. My job just got simpler. Thanks:)

I’ve got a photo—now I just have to slide the clip in and I’m done, yes?

I could never get those black seals to seal proper - No pun intended

I then took my speedo assembly to my local automatic transmission shop and he set me up with an orange GM speedo seal with internal garter spring for free

          Problem solved

Place the wire clip in the hole sideways, then roll it into place and seat it against the seal with a socket that fits the hole.
