Just started up motor (440, 4bbl) and have white-ish smoke coming from valve cover oil fill cap. More throttle more smoke. I'm not sure it's the correct cap as it does not feel like it "seals" properly.

Here is what I've done over the winter: powder coated valve covers and new gaskets, new carb, fuel line from pump to carb, fuel filter, intake manifold de-carboned sand blasted and painted, new ignition wires and spark plugs.

There are no leaks from valve covers or fuel lines. It's running rough as I've not fully adjusted carb/idle but I did not want to keep it running if I'm damaging something.

I'll say it again, I'm a novice trying to make this work so any help is appreciated ...

Start with the easy stuff. Jiggle the PCV valve. Make sure it rattles. Even if it does, replace it for good measure. Report back. Adjust the carb and let it run to full warm up.

PCV does rattle, but hose was not connected to it or to the air cleaner. I think that's where it should connect? I'll replace it and report back. Very much appreciated.

PVC hose goes to 3/8" port at the base of the carb.
