I have a 65 Satellite with a 72 auto trans. It carries a 3 pin NSS and back up light switch. My back up lights work each time I'm in reverse but the NSS hasn't ever worked. I looked at a wiring diagram that shows a brown wire goes from the trans to the NSS. I didn't have one so I made one. My question is this. Does the NSS wire go to the same screw terminal that the starter solenoid goes to ? I know the battery cable goes to large threaded BAT stud, a ground to the G spade, and the ignition wire to the I spade. Thanks in advance

that wire is the ground for a starter relay with a ground terminal instead of the one you have that is grounded to the body

The center wire from the NSS goes to the spade terminal on the relay, it has a large plastic connector on it from the factory.

Not sure on a 'late' trans like your 72, but have seen reference to two different three pin NSS, one tall, one short. Don't know which one your's would take.
Quick check would be, in park or neutral, see if the center pin has continuity, between it, and the trans housing. Should, and if not, rooster tail isn't making contact. Shift linkage needs adjustment, or NSS is bad, or the wrong one.

I don't know the different application either. Maybe someone will chime in and explain but here's an example.
