Steering column disassembly?

Anyone have experience tearing down a column shift steering column? I am replacing mine with and Ididit tilt column but need the lower firewall bracket off the bottom of column. I have torn it down to the point I have the shaft out but cant figure out how to get the lower gear selector bar off so I can get that firewall bracket free.

There is a plastic dowel pin in it. Drive it down in .

Looks like I found it. Had to line up the hole from where i removed the shifter lever with the tube. There is a pin in there. actually it looks more like a allen head threaded pin but I will try it out tonight.

Mine was just a plastic dowel. I used a small phillips to punch it in. Then the outer part pulls right out.

So i just got home and it was a threaded allen on mine. Maybe they switched to plastic on later models.
