I have a 71 roadrunner that i am restoring and i'm pretty sure it has the original steering column in it cause it has the correct steering wheel on it for this year roadrunner. However, when i got it, the steering column was almost sitting on the seat cause the steering column bracket wasnt attached. When i went to go bolt it back up, the bracket didn't align with the studs. Seemed like it was a half inch too far forward towards the firewall. Need to bring it back a little. Is there a way to adjust this or is it possible the wrong size steering column was put in it?

I’ll bet the collapsible steering shaft has been pushed forward. There are nylon pins that locate the two pieces that make up the steering shaft. They will shear on impact. Try pulling the column back with a good yank. The correct fix would be to pull the shaft out and replace the nylon pins.
