OK, I don't visit this forum often enough I guess. Here's what I've found after having hundreds of woodgrain wheels in our shop. All woodgrain, all models from 64-71.
All Mopar woodgrain rimmed wheels have a texture to them. Some are a lighter texture like the 64-66 B-body, the 70-71 E-body and the 70-71 rimblow wheels then there's the deeper texture on the 68-70 A and B-body wheels.
Typically the 68-69 A and B-body wheels were darker than the "True" 70 wheel but all of them had slight differences in shade. All of the woodgrain wheels had a colored finish on top of the base material. This colored finish was worn off quickly which then resulted in the base plastic taking the wear. This is why most of the wheels you see are smooth.
The wheel that rrunner posted is a correct original finish for a 68-69. The wheel XS29J8BULLITT posted is a corect original finish for a 70. You also need to take into consideration that pictures can be deceiving on colors and shades.
Hope this clears up this issue. Feel free to contact me anytime with questions or needs for any of the woodgrain wheels. I carry all new parts for 68-70 B-body and 70-71 rimblow wheels. All perfect flawless beeter than NOS.
