Really strange issue last night.

The Coronet has been running fine no issues. We went to a club meeting, down the freeway and back 2 miles and some street driving if that matters.

I got off the freeway, and everying that cool.

I was ideling at the light at the freeway exit and the car just quits, dies, lost all power like someone turned a key. I turn the key, after putting it in park, nothing.

Cycle the shifter and try again, it starts, weird.

So going down the street a mile or so, i notice the lights getting dim oh oh. The car dies again, no power to anything, coast to a stop. Push car to side.

So i look under the hood, I touch the BR,, VR, coil, starter relay, bulkhead connector, ALT, Bat cables, they all seem ok.

I looked at the fuses, they were all ok.

Weird, no power to anything at all. All electrical is dead. Then I was stating there pondering, and the wife says "hey, the domelight came on. Try staring the car again, it starts

Drive home, look at everything in the light, everything looks ok.

any one have a idea where to start?

Hmmmmm...... Similar thing happened to me way, way back. Sounds like you were running from the battery. First, check connections (broken wire, green conectors that should be gold or silver...), cracked insulation. Check the alternator brushes and slip rings (that was my problem). Brushes can be gotten from your local auto parts chain, and slip rings can be cleaned up with emory cloth. Intermittent faults can be a bitch to find.

Yeah, it was really strange. the thing is that there was no power to anything, like it didnt have a battery in it.

and then it started fine, like normal, with no battery charging or much, after it was running again.

Sounds like the classic case of bad grounds. Try cleainng all those connections first. Hopefully it will be that easy.

How old is your battery? Sometimes when they take a dive there can be some really puzzling symptoms. Maybe get that tested at the auto parts store.

you pulled the connector off the bulk head and all the wires looked good? reach up behind the dash and wiggle the wires going to the am-meter does this cause the power to cut in and out?

I'm currently having this same issue started fine backed up car quit no power to anything no lights no dash nothing please help

This. I'm 95% positive it's your ammeter leads. Lok Tite.

I did pull all connections all still clean with dielectric grease still in place I'm going to dig into the dash and check the ammeter thanks for the speedy reply

I recently had the exact same problem. Turned out to be a badly oxidized contact on the positive wire to the starter relay. I don't think it had been touched in 47 years. Scraped it clean with a pocket knife and all was well.

look at bulkhead connections very carefully about 10 times

pull off a few connections and spot check

the wire insulation can harden over time and can cause wire breakage

This thread is 6 years old? I vote bulkhead connector. Remove each bank carfully and spray with electrical contact cleaner until it runs clear. Use the whole goddam can if you have to. Re-install carefully, ears will be brittle.

Never went back to check the original date. Boy do I feel like a dumbshit.

Check for tightness, as well as seeing if they cable is burnt - burnt copper does not conduct much electricity.

This thread is 6 years old. I/we realize you are a new member with just a few messages. Please start a thread with your issues/problems/etc with your car. All you have to do is hit "post new thread" and away you go. It is also VERY helpful if people will give info on car/year/ you know basics. The OP is probably confused as to why people are responding to a thread that old
