I am researching the possibility of stroking my 361. I have seen other b block engines like 383's and 400's stroked. I know, why you say. It is the original motor in my 1966 Satllite. I think it would be cool and may even make some serious power. Undecided on whether to make it a 413, 426, or 456. Has anyone looked into this possibility before?

I have a 360 small block stroked to 408 that i run in my 67 Barracuda. It made 611 hp at 6400 rpm on the dyno. 545 ft lbs of torque at 5000 rpm. This engine is strictly a race engine and not for street use. Compression you would guess is high but in fact its only 10.5 to 1 and the dyno was done with 94 octane premium gas. Yes its a small block but thats where the small in this engine ends. 1.5 hp per cubic inch.

Sorry Mr.Tillie but what does that have to do with a 361 stroker?

Robinsonwr have you looked at Hughes Engines? They have some stuff for the 361. Not sure on the stock 361 stroke but is it possible to use a 383 or 400 crank in the 361 to make a stroker?

The same crank is used for 361-383-400 B engines so using a 383 or 400 crank won't help because it's the same. 440 Source doesn't make a kit for the 361 I don't think but you could always give them a call and double check. The 361 was 4.12" dia. bore x 3.38" stroke. The 383 was 4.25"x3.38' and the 400 was 4.34"x3.38". That's why everyone wants a 400 to stroke - the stock bore size is already 0.20" larger than the 440 bore. Stroking the 361 won't net you much in terms of cubic inches - even with a 0.060" overbore. All you'll get is a 4.18" bore which is still smaller then the 383 standard bore size of 4.25".
But if you are still intruiged it would be best to call either Hughes or 440 Source

If more power is all you're after, I would just pull the original 361 out and tuck it away somewhere and then stick whatever other B/RB you think would be cool in it.

HP to Dollar it might just be cheaper too. And your numbers matching engine stays original and safe.

yes, no kits exist and maximum cubes would be around 457. I have decided to to go with a 470 ci combination with hydraulic roller and dual plane intake. I will be using the aluminum Stealth heads with the combination also. Should make tons of streetable torque and somewhere over 500 horsepower. May even use an EZ EFI from FAST to top it off.
