So me and my buddy both have 67 gtx's ( I also have a 66 belv I post car and a 65 barracuda is various states if disrepair ) We drop a new engine in his car...its a work in progress 4 speed all black primer etc 4 speed ( just painting the picture for you) we decide to drive his car around and goof off. We have seen this 67 coronet r/t sitting in this driveway for 2 years with 4 inches of moss, two flat tires and no engine. We finally decided to ask since it looked like it had been sitting since way before we saw it. At this point we are so sick to death of the "its not for sale I am going to restore it" people that have cars that rot into the ground. So my buddy parks where his car is kind of visible (in case he is actually a mopar guy and would recognize it). So the guy answers the door and my buddy says really nice "Hey stupid question but is your coronet for sale? " and of course the guy says "is there a for sale sign on it ?" (The guy is so crusty that he in no way could go and perform the kind of work the car needs anyway). My buddy says "ok man whatever, then have a nice day" and we start to walk off I can see the look on my buddies face he is about to snap, the guys tone was just enough to push him over the edge. So the guy steps out a little and say "ohhh is that a dart?" (referring to the gtx) So my buddy says loudly imitating the guy "do you see a dart sign on it ?" the guy says "nah I see a Plymouth sign...." Right about that time my biddy fired the car up and dropped the clutch at like 5 grand and left a patch to the end of the block. It was only like a month ago and it still makes me laugh.

Welcome to the site from the Motor City! Very funny story, good first post! Let's see some pics of your cars.

cold call....

Gee..... Dosen't sound like a very mature way to go about it.....!!!! Being judgemental toward someone on a first meeting won't get you very far.
The guy obvious has some sort of connection to his car, otherwise it wouldn't still be there. Even grouchy folks will warm up after awile. I've cold called on cars in the past and got the same response... but after showing some respect and appreaciation for a persons property... sharing enthusiasm and knowledge, and not attempting to pry his car away from him right away, you might just make a friend. Come back in a week... chat again... time may come when you will need a trailer to take the car home.... Worked for me...!

Hmmmmm....Sorry, I really don't see the humor in this guys. Just sounds like people being mean to each other.

In the end you still have a grumpy/sarcastic owner with a Dodge rotting in his driveway and a couple guys that wanted the car but will never see the likes of it...:dontknow:

Sorry, no humor seen here. Not for nothin, I get the same chit. I have some guy walk up asking if this or that is for sale. I also answer the same dam way. "Do you see a "For Sale" sign in it?" I have these jack ***' banging on my fu%^&*)in window while I'm eating and there flippin mug is in my kitchen window with the most jackass expression on there face. WTF?!?!!!!!!

I mean, come on! While I'm eating your pounding my window and try to low ball me with a $50 offer on a Durango?

These are the days YOUR glad I don't own a gun.

Douche move.

You trespassed onto his property and bothered the old guy then you are disrespectful and rude to him when you can't get what you want and finally break the law by carelessly/recklessly speeding away in a residential area......

Nice to see youth being youth. :angry9:

Your lucky he didn't call the cops or worse.

Be gentle with old timers....have manners and learn to take no for an answer without having a temper tantrum.

You catch more fly's with sugar than vinegar..

i have had countless encounters with guys like that, like a 69 coronet rt, the guy always had his wife answer the door and wont come out to talk about the nice car, we just checked in every few months to see if he'd talk to us about it or maybe get a sale, and we also have found chargers chevelles camaros roadrunners and a 70 challenger rtse 440-6, we were nice to all of the people we talked to and once a guy was happy to talk about his cars and showed us his drag car collection and his really nice shop, i cant remember his name but he had early 60's dodges "the fastest 4 door valiant(maybe)" and lived close to san jose if anyone would know who im talking about

that bridge is burnt.. I have to agree not very funny.

I have to agree with all you guys..............Jackass Move!!!

The old guy probably has seen his share of pain in his life, maybe a vet, lost loved ones, what ever. The man deserved a little more respect than was shown by these two goof balls.

I love talking to the old timers.........they always have great stories & you can also learn a few tricks.

I hope you guys are reading these posts & learning how to be Men.

My 2 cents

Yep- Douche move-If that car belonged to a friend or a loved one and he was just keeping it for those reasons then you have indeed burned your chances of ever owning that car/ knowing this older person better
-Probably could have told you some great racing stories

yeah^^ my dads gonna be that old guy in 30 years when hes 75 that says no to the sale of our 57 bel air thats been in the family since 1958, it couldve been just like the scenario my family has

I don't blame the OP for stopping and asking if the car was for sale...you never know. But he handled the whole deal wrong. Could have just said thank you and sorry to have bothered you. Could have struck up a conversation before asking if the car was for sale and maybe got a little better response from the old guy...still probably been no. Just be polite and go on your way.

Every time I have a parts car in the driveway, I get vultures circling, ringing the bell and leaving notes. I'm usually polite, as they are usually local guys hunting down old cars.
I did unleash once, 2 years ago. I had a 68 satellite for parts in the driveway. I pulled in my driveway from work, and 2 guys had the hood open like they owned it!! I really verbally abused them and they took off knowing they crossed a line.
I think most of us have stories about stopping to ask, or being asked ourselves about cars in the driveway. Some folks just act differently.

I thought it was funny I could care less about a burnt bridge. All the guy had to do was say no and that would have been it even if his NO! was crisp and in the same tone. MY friend didn't say "whatever" he did say "ok man have a nice day" (I misquoted him). before he walked off. I am sure if he saw the car we were in before hand he might have warmed up but he didn't we showed him the same rudeness he showed us. I have met plenty of cool older guys that even when the car is going to rot away and is never for sale they are more than nice and so am I. There are a bunch of guys I still see around I met like that. I get people asking if one of my cars are for sale a lot ( never popping my hood that's over the line) and if I was as rude like this guy was I would expect the same treatment and an irrational law breaking burnout would make me laugh.

To whoever made the gun comment...last time I checked its not legal to shoot a person for knocking on your door in a city neighborhood and if it came down to the person pulling and pointing it at me, on his property or not, before telling me to leave they would get one pulled on them because I DO own and carry a gun at all times and you cant just point a gun at a door knocker.

You can say this guy probably this probably that went through this blah blah but no one knows, its pure conjecture. He could be the happiest guy around except for that day and he could be a ballerina having a bad week who the hell knows.

Douche move it may be. In my opinion both sides are guilty of douche bag like behavior. I never said it was right it just made me laugh. But I would do it all over again, now and 20 years from now if it were the same situation so pass your judgments us and all other "youth" its not going to make it less funny to me.

Also I appreciate everyone's feedback good, bad or whatever and the fact that no one called us douches or asshole or whatever just said it was a douche move etc without resorting to name calling like some forums go the direction of.

Glad you cleared that up- oh yeah everyone has a bad day -thats for sure-
Well hope its not too late for a welcome to the forum-: p

Patience.....

We showed him the same rudeness he showed us. An irrational law breaking burnout would make me laugh.

I DO own and carry a gun at all times.

Glad to have you here with us Jeff.

Some of us "OL Guys" really do appreciate the fact that there is some young blood who understand and appreciate the old school Mopars, (and older cars in general).

I still have issues with the adolescent methods some youths think is "funny" and am concerned about the effect these actions may have on representing our car hobby. But youth will be youth and eventually being smart will give way to being wise. Until then... just show a little respect for those that are not fortunate enough to be as "smart" as you are.

It sounds as though your "buddy" is not a very good influence and perhaps you might concider going back and offering an apology to the "ol guy"... then get to know him.

I'm not sure if your statement about carrying a gun is suppost to impress.... but i'm not.

How about some pic's of your Mopars....? Thats what were here for

will

Welcome to the bbody site there Jeff.. May-be the attitude hear is what makes this site so good, We all have our thoughts and our ways, bluefury summed it up good with youth and we all at one time or another need and do learn respect, its a long hard row without it. I found years ago with a yes sir no sir that it was much easier to gain some of the respect that i thought i deserved, which i did not. If your buddy would have done that to me, i would have told you to thank him.. Everyone loves a good burn out now and again.
