I know that M51 is the fender tag code for a 1971 B-body sunroof, but is it possible to have the factory sunroof and not have the M51 code on the fender tag? Did the St. Louis plant do crazy things like not code a sunroof on a 1971 B-body??

Anything is possible, but St. Louis was pretty good about getting the codes on the tag.

Yes, the M51 Code was usually not put on the fender tag. Also C31, C62 and sometimes steering wheel codes are not put on.

I disagree. With the exception of a Lynch Rd car these codes are USUALLY seen from other plants. Where did you get this idea?

A factory sunroof car will have the drain tubes coming out in the rear wheel housings.Take a rear tie off and a flashlight and look for a drain tube end in you wheelhouse. If there is one there its a factory sun roof car.

1969 Charger Registry, answers to Chris Giardina. I guess you're calling HIM wrong!

Oh, My Charger has C31 option but its not on the tag, the seats are correctly date coded so...:tongueflap:

Yes. Codes for sunroofs varied by year and by plant. Sometimes you can tell a sunroof car by the VON.

Yes, Doug is correct regarding the first VON character for the sunroof as in most cases they were not factory installed but rather done by an outside vendor near the assembly plants. VONs had several different first character digits for many special build cases.

My other comment regarding what was coded on the FT was directed at C31 and C62.

I don't know who Chris Giardina is or how knowledgable he is. As I stated above, coding vary from plant to plant. He may have been referring to a specific car.

I believe that the St. Louis plant coded more options than any other plant but Doug could better answer this as he researches and has a large data base of SL cars.

You would serve yourself better if you contacted Doug about some of your questions and mis-information you seem to have rather than arguing with me here and relying on what some other self proclaimed experts may tell you. Just because someone puts something in writing on the Internet doesn't make it true.:) I see things stated everyday that get corrected or retracted. Then again, I see incorrect info that no one challenges that goes on to become "myth." Don't become one of "those guys."

How can you not know Chris Giardina. When 1969 Charger comes up a Orange and black beast with 440 callouts on the hood is what pops up, that is his Charger. He is the registrar for 1969 Chargers. Sorry but how do you NOT know that!?

Well, I don't live my life on the Internet searching for 1969 Chargers.

I have been involved in the muscle car hobby for 40+ years and have enjoyed owning and driving the 150 or more cars I have owned over that time rather than looking at others on the WWW.

As I said, one or two example fender tags coded the same do not make for the standard. Different plants did things differently, they were built by humans living in the 60s when drinking and doing drugs was everyday life. Lots of mistakes were made. Maybe the plant his car was built at did not code the same, but that does not mean that is the standard for all of those models. That is why I also stated in another thread that your decoder based on half a dozon example B/Ss is NOT something I would want to rely on. You are not listening to what people are trying to educate you on but rather trying to impress us with all you know.

I know that they were built by people! I have a Charger so I spend time on it. I only go to these forums when I'm looking for certain info or if I want to know what's new!

About my decoder. You haven't looked at it so how can you be a critic!? I want to know why you think it sucks. BTW your wrong I'm not trying to impress anyone, I'm trying to help others with what they need to know.

No offense to Chris Giardina, but I've never heard of him either. I've been at this a long time, and know a lot of people in a lot of places.

but I don't know him

that mean I ain't nobody?
