I saw this post and apparently either someone faked the block in the Super Bird or this is a fake block. The car does exist and was sold at Mecum as Numbers matching.

  • 1 of 308 V-code 4-speed Superbirds produced
  • Estimated $65,000 invested in restoration
  • Body stripped to bare metal
  • Matching numbers V-code 440 6 BBL engine
  • New Process 833 4-speed transmission
  • A33 Track Pack Dana 60 rear end with 3.54 gears
  • Power steering
  • Power brakes with front discs
  • EV2 Tor-Red with Black vinyl top and interior
  • Bucket seats
  • Hurst pistol grip shifter
  • Rear-facing front fender scoops
  • Tic-Toc-Tac, clock with Rallye gauges
  • Beep Beep horn
  • Hood hold-down pins
  • Rallye wheels
  • Goodyear F60-15 Polyglas tires

I'm sure engines were replaced for issues not related to block damage; so some of those blocks must be out there somewhere

If this image is of a factory stamped Superbird block I have to agree the one on FB marketplace is a re-stamp. I hope nobody gets taken.

One giveaway is that an original VIN stamping pad has curved flycutter machining marks like the original one above. The one on FB does not have these markings

Clearly, the fake block stamping was done without using a ‘gang’. The numbers are all out of line and jostled. Hell, the spacing even varies from digit to digit. The factory stamped the block digits all at once using a ‘gang’ fixture.
I agree with the post above, why would someone randomly pick a Superbird VIN to put on an engine block? It would be interesting to know the back story.

I remember a year or two ago on BaT there was a hemi car listed. The seller had an attack dog or two that went ballistic in the comments and on Moparts because people questioned a hand stamped block. The argument was essentially that they are common and normal on all mopar engines. Supposedly Dave wise was ok with that listing saying he agreed it was a numbers block. It got pointed out that his own website clearly shows and states a gang stamp is expected.

Top Shelf Mopars is from Canada I believe.
