lock up is done by the outside of the cones being wedged into the sides of the case halves
the side gear surface and the inside of the cones ( pics shown ) can be polished to smooth out the picked up metal with a hand held dumore and a 100 grit 2 inch disc followed by a surface conditioning disc.
it is the inside of the case you should be worried about as these cones have probably bottomed into the case halves --procedure is to machine .030 -.050 off the back of the cones to add clearance for the cones so they are not in contact with the bottom of the case halves.
someone on here might have a spare set of springs or maybe know where to buy replacements ( industrial supply shops ) with the proper height/tension

are the spider gears welded to the cross shaft -- if so, you are sol as there are no replacements available
