Hello, I recently purchased a 74 Charger with less than 15k miles. All original including tires. Only part changed prior to my purchase was the batt. Looking for suggestions on how to preserve its value and deal with surface corrosion on parts like drums, leaf springs, and drive shaft which were never painted. Body, top and interior are almost like new. Also looking for advice on wheel and tire sizes. Want to go with 15" wheels, Indy style and maybe slightly wider tires in rear. 70s in front and 60s in rear. Thanks, JJ.

what a lucky man. They are nice cars, can't help with wheels. I'm into hubcaps and original condition.

Great score. Pictures please.

Hi Jbs74Chgr, welcome:wav:

Under 15k miles? You have to show us some pictures!

Welcome to the site we deff need pics and more info is it a base model 318 or a rallye u code
It depends on what it is how I would continue with it , sadly there just not worth much unless there special my very first charger was a 74 and only had 36xxx documented miles car wasn't worth much of anything being a base model and sat out in the rain and salt air for most of its life , let's see some pics and we can help you a little better

Wow no sooner said then done

ECS do a product called Rust Prevention Magic, which I believe is an excellent product for metal preservation while maintaining a bare metal finish. Please post up some pictures of your car? The more the better.:clock:

Looks like a very nice s.e. car any pics of the inside and hole eng

My 74 Charger is a one owner car prior to my purchase, only driver by one person, a Dr from Mexico that moved to the US and bought the car new. Car lived its entire life in Minneapolis but was never driven in the snow, maybe not even rain. Wheels have not been off car yet. Its a little unusual, 318 eng, 8 1/4 sure grip axle, blower motor for rear window defrost. Rust limited to unpainted parts like diff cover.74 Charger Pics 021.jpg

OK, genie in a bottle? you had to in order to find such a nice car. Congratulations.
Ok , are you old enough to drive that car?

HA HA

I like the wheel covers and whitewalls and would not touch them. Heat and remove the door bumper strips if they are not factory. Also the mud flaps. That is a clean car. I would not care about value. Enjoy, show, and drive it. Add Classic Auto Air, or Vintage if you want to enjoy it in summer.

Sorry no whole eng pic, have some fire wall pics and interior. Interior is like new. All doors seals are original and like new. Paint is very good except light scratches on hood and trunk. Most should buff out, some will not.74 Charger Pics 005.jpg74 Charger Pics 015.jpg74 Charger Pics 016.jpg74 Charger Pics 018.jpg

I am, but my 14 year old son in the car is not. He fell in love with it as soon as I put it in the driveway.

Alright, it isn't fair. A young whippersnapper should start with a beginner car, not a creampuff. I have an original 74' Charger 440 HP engine in the shed. I keep looking,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Bumper stripes were put on at dealer and they are loose and in bad shape, mud flaps have to go. That's all I hear "don't touch it". The original radial tires have lots of tread but some are out of round. Was thinking about leaving them mounted and just putting new mags and tires on it so I can drive it. What do you think?

Take them off and save them, find an extra set rims and buy radials, and enjoy the car. Don't change anything. Who knows, it will bug me enough to drive down just to see it. The 74' Is top of the line. Your fortunate to have found it.

thanks for the quick update on the photos very nice ,and I think I see a **** eaten smile on his face

Pull the wheels and tires set them in the garage in a coroner put what ever you want on it (I wouldn't drive on them for safety purposes) sand the rusty parts as in brake drums drive shaft and paint them it won't hurt the cars value , drive it and enjoy your brand new charger. It's just not a holy crap I need it car for those guys who buy low mileage cars if it was a rallye u code car then I would say leave it alone but they made tons of the s.e. charger like yours , not trying to put you down or anything it's a sweet car I would love to have it , but the best thing someone could do is service it change the tires inspect the brakes and drive the hell out of it

Yes he does but he wont get a chance to drive it until he has driven something else for several years. I have two long time Mopar friends that just can't believe there eyes when they see it.

Thanks for the reply, I take no offense, just trying to get a little advice and do the right thing for the car. It is unusual to find an ordinary 318 car that has really been taken care of. It did need all the fluids changed and I need to repack the wheel bearings. Still has original spark plugs too.
