Hey all,

Yes, I searched, no I couldn't find anything on this. Sorry if I just missed it.

Would a '71 (or alternatively '72) Roadrunner rear bumper fit on a '73 Roadrunner? If yes, change valence too? Direct fit?

Incidentally, is the rear deck lid the same '71-'74?

Thanks.

EDIT: I just noticed that the angle of the quarter panel where it meets the bumper looks like it's different on the '71-'72, at least on the picture I'm viewing... or am I looking at it wrong? So that would be one problem, right? Anyway, still interested in any other thoughts or knowledge and the deck lid answer. Thanks.

From what I remember, the 71 and 72 bumpers are different than the 73's where they meet the 1/4's. The earlier cars have a recess that the bumpers fit into. I'm pretty sure the rear decklids are the same.

That's what I was thinking, I just don't have a '71-'72 here to check out. It looks to me like even if it would mount up somehow, either that edge or the top edge would then be at a different angle. Mods to the body aren't possible, since it's already painted. So, not worth the trouble.

Thank you for your help. The '73 bumper isn't that bad, I just thought a different one on there might be cool.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I was looking at it from a smoother point of view to get the bumper tucked into the body better.

if you want the bumper tucked in.. take your rear bumper brackets, cut them 3/4-1" and then weld them back together. it will bring your bumper in. I have also been thinking about doing that as well as cutting the bumper in half (right in the middle, top to bottom) and removing about 3/4" material so that the bumper fits flush from left to right.

Actually, my main goal was to just have the '71 or '72 style bumper. But you're right, tucking it in is my 2nd goal and I probably will try something like that at some point. Thanks.
