tailight lenses different trim

My 71 gtx came to me with 1 tailight with black trim and one with no black trim. Both had the potmetal black and chrome trim ring over the plastic. Has anybody else seen this? Were the ones with the black paint trim correct and my other one a replacement? Both have all the numbers andpentagon on them. Next ?? Could the ones with no black paint trim be rr lenses and the ones with black paint trim be for the gtx? Or could the oneswith black paint trim be 71 lenses and the other 72 lenses? Or vice versa

My 71 Satellite came with black trim. One thing for sure its not a 72 lense.

The lens with black painted trim is for Satellite, Road Runner and Sebring. The lens without the paint trim is for Sebring Plus and GTX and take the pot metal trim piece.
72 lenses are totally different size and shape. A lot bigger.

Beings how your GTX takes the metal trim you can use either lens as the metal trim will cover the painted black.

what are the options for that trim? the only ones I've seen in person are the ones at year one. They're nice. would I use them on my car? yes. I'm not doing a concours resto, though..

I don't know who is making them. RR doesn't use the trim. Just GTX and Sebring Plus.

I have purchased a pair of these tail light lenses and they are nice. Mine however did not have the black surround painted. It's an easy fix though.

be very careful mixing and matching those repop bezels/lenses
with original parts.

the repop lense/bezels are right side only used for both sides
the originals had a left and right side for the lenses and bezels.
use a original left side bezel on a repop lense
and you will break the lense!

That's right Frank.
There is a right and left lens and bezel.
The lenses will fit either T/L housing but the bezels have to go right bezel to right lens and left bezel to left lens.
On the repro lenses the cheaper ones like what Vans carry are both right lenses but pretty sure the expensive ones that B/E&A carries are a right and left lens.
Don't know about the repro bezels.

i know b/e&a lenses are only right sided
i assume the bezels are right sided as well to fit them.
i would think that the source for these lenses are only from one place.

the market is sure flooded out with them.
b/e&a 71 sidemarkers are upside down or i would buy them.
too much money for parts that are incorrect.
i would rather find used ones but that supply is pretty dried up these days.

It was my understanding that the cheaper lenses were not of the same injection molding as is the B/E&A ones. That's why its 150.00 verses 360.00. Maybe I'm wrong as I don't use much reproduction stuff on my cars.

Also I finally got that other quarter into the shop so should have that trunk gutter here for you shortly if you still need it.

yeah,just let me know on the gutter,i still want it.
i'm getting closer to needing it but not yet.
i just media blasted most of the 71 and
i'm welding in the rad support/ inner fenders right now.
then i will attack the rear.
i know someone who was pizzed off they paid that much
and got 2 right side lenses from b/e&a.
i would just beware before spending the coin they want
thats all.

The people making these probably didn't check to see if there is a right and left sense they look the same.

I learned something here. My RR was missing both lenses. I thought they interchanged and thought the same for the bezels.
