I have both sold and bought things on CL and I find that only having e-mails through the CL site is the best way to encourage scammers. When they reply, you have no idea who they are or where they are. At least with texting, the texter's phone number shows up on the text. You can then see if it is from a local area code or not and proceed from there, especially if you are only accepting cash with local p/u or delivery. My last few items sold were primarily done by texts and calls and went well.
