Hey guys,

Been browsing here for a while during the search. Great site.

Well, I was able to get my hand on a really nice survivor 1968 Satellite that Le Hodge had (Hodge Restorations). Not being too technical, I drove the 10 hours down there to look at it and bought it based on two things. Le said it was a great starter car that was super solid (which I found out later it ABSOLUTELY was and that Le bought it for himself before selling it.

The story was that the typical "little old lady" had it until she died (hopefully not in the car) and then a guy got it from the estate and warehoused it inside for 10 years. Le was after the guy for 2 years to buy it, and finally on Christmas Eve 2009 the guy relented.

So now it's mine. I had the interior completely redone, new bumpers, rims and tires.

It's all about the money left over now. I am either going to do a 440 swap or a 470 "Wedge Performance" stroker engine.

The car is a bit strange from what I have seen. Gold exterior, black vinyl top and two tone green interior.

They also found TWO build sheets in the car when doing the interior which I thought was pretty rare.

Thanks for reading! I hope to be a pretty avid poster in here as I get my car on the road and start cruising.

Don

that is a nice car,but you're right,it is kinda strange for the interior.

What did the Build Sheets tell you ??

I do not have them in my hands as of yet. They are with the car.

That is part of the "Christmas Syndrome" - waiting for the car to be done so I can go pick it up.

The car, when I bought it, had some real cheap replacement seat covers on front and back. Can anyone tell if this is original? I doubt it....

Those seat covers are just that, covers. It likely had the originals under it as little old ladies were famious for putting seat covers over the originals to "keep them nice." Usually they were the clear plastic Fingerhut brand with the little bumps all over them.

that looks like a real solid original car that was nothing special when new and just the kind of car you can modify to your liking and not hurt the value of it. paint it the color you want and do the drive train of your choice.

That's exactly what Le told me. Do it and make it YOURS. If my money was long enough, I wanted to paint it FF1 (light green metallic) to match the 2 tone interior.

My budget is limited, so I am getting a brand new interior (which after all is where I will be spending most of my time!) and a real nice drivetrain.

It is very cool working with a restorer and telling them exactly what you want and where.

Money is running out....hopefully I have enough. I can't live with a 230 gross hp 318 in there....

Can anyone speak to the fact if what I put in there (two tone green interior) is what would have been in there stock?

I know the Satellite was an "upgrade" over the Belvidere and new Road Runner that year, but below the GTX in terms of trim and styling...

Did I just put GTX seat covers in there or is this what it would have appeared in stock trim?

Still havent decoded the fender tag. I will do that when I get the car...hopefully soon.

Cool ride ,welcome to the FBBO forum.

Man. Just been offered a nice deal. Got a potential buyer for the Satellite for what I got into it, and the deal is a '68 GTX numbers matching broadcast sheet car for an additonal $9k. The GTX isn't perfect, looks like it was sprayed, but its all there. Accident back in the 70's with some 70's grade bodywork....

I really don't know what to do.

The Satellite was bought by me and I have quarterbacked the moves from day 1. Now this QQ1 GTX comes along and I am all insane...

Stick with the Satellite, dude. That GTX, if my suspicions are correct, will be hiding all manner of nasty, unpleasant crap. The Satellite sounds like a gem, and you can paint it whatever color you want, with whatever drivetrain you want, without worrying about hurting the value. Hell, make it a GTX clone. It'll be cleaner than that real one, and just as fun.

Stick with the Satellite. I think you'll be happier in the long run.

Welcome! I like the color combination on your satellite.

Well I slept on it and stuck with the Satellite - as far as a nice old car, I think the Satellite will do me just fine. Especially with a 470 stroker I plan to put in it.
