Apologies if this is already covered elsewhere.
The story goes that train travel opened the country to widespread affordable vacation travels thru out the country.
Many destinations had luxury resorts in rather remote areas with limited resources.
When the arriving guests arrived at the local train station, there was a need to easily transport the guests and their luggage back to the hotel.
Specially purpose built vehicles were built especially for this task.
The Hotels called them "station wagons".
The have been a part of my entire life, first being the 9 passenger Chrysler T&C that we moved to Florida in.
