The Real Reason

According to the wind tunnel testing, once the wing was a foot above the trunk lid there was almost no noticeable gain between that height and the production height of the wing. That said the wing was supposedly put at the production height to allow access to the trunk on the street production wingcars which had to be completed and documented by Nascar to be elegeable for competition . I'm sure that the debate over the wing height and the real purpose of the fender scoops will continue. .......

You mean the fender "exhausters"!
3% less drag with them on a fender.
On the #88 race Daytona, the tire gets into the under hood structure before it gets into the scoop.
