I've had a couple guys ask, so here's the story.
After I finished off the '64 build last summer, http://www.forbbodiesonly.com/moparforum/showthread.php?35850-64-330-Street-Hemi-build (shameless plug) I spent the rest of the time driving and breaking it in. Early on I noticed oil dripping from the clutch inspection cover. It progressively got worse. Then about 300 miles in I started getting blue smoke under acceleration and then all the time. Not just a little. Pulled the plugs and discovered #7 was coated, black sooty. I ran a compression test and all were between 195-205, within range. So after talking to Eddie a couple times and changing the oil 3 times using Brad-Pen 30#, the problems persisted. By then it was fall and I put it away. After about a month of thinking about direction I called Eddie back and ordered a new long block with some up-grades. That engine was delivered about a month ago and Dynoed at just under 600HP/600TQ. Upgrades were a hydraulic roller cam and extensive porting and polishing.
So, my suspicion is that I have a faulty rear main seal and a busted oil ring on 7. The plan is to ship first long block back to Eddie for teardown and inspection. I DO NOT believe it’s anything Eddie missed; parts fail, it happens. And frankly, if it's going to happen it will happen to me. Anyway, after talking to Eddie again about a month ago he's in the middle of buying a new house and is taking break from engine building to focus on family and moving. So I'll crate the engine up and put it on the pallet racking for now. As curious as I am about what’s going on, I’m going to let Eddie do it in case there is any parts warrantee that can be recouped from the MFG.
The plan then for the first engine (long block) is to build a Blown, injected engine. Aiming for between 800-900HP on pump gas. More a street/show car. As I told Eddie; if he wants to put up with me and take on the project, it's his. I completely trust and respect his craftsmanship. If he doesn't want to take it on, I'll be asking you guys who to use.
So, there ya go.
