In the 70s, Mom and Dad were selling the house. We had an in ground DoughBoy pool.
The real estate agent mentioned a black couple that wanted to make an offer but that it may be low because black people don't swim.
I still shake my head at that one. Who really thinks that black people can't swim?
The real estate agent said something stupid like their skin absorbs water so they cannot float or some other ignorant thing.

Environmental influences, for better or worse. My parents, NYC dwellers growing up, no access to water, couldn’t swim. As a result, beat on me to get good at it. Two years on swim team in public pool, in cold water. Supposed to be great for building mental toughness. Child abuse by today’s standards.

Wife grew up in a rural county, can’t swim. Her kid sister came of age 15 years later with a new public pool, swims like a fish.

Knew of him and the show, but I never watched it, so I have no opinion on this. Sad though, at such a young age, despite being Black, White, or whatever. RIP...cr8crshr/Bill

Yeah, we watched him grow up along side our kids. He was a great character on "The Resident".
It really shocked me to hear how he died. Sharks, Rip currents, man, I'm not going in the ocean!
Rest in peace knowing that so many people loved you Malcolm!

Having grew up near the gulf I learned along time ago about rip currents. Don't fight them just float on your back or better yet swim sideways to the shoreline and you will be out of it quickly. People freak out and try to swim straight in which is the worse thing to do. As far as blacks not being able to swim, the public pool I learned to swim at was in a predominantly 80/20 black/white neighborhood in the 70's and if taught properly like I was they swim just as good as the rest of us.
