Tire shine products have been around for 20 years but are they better than the used to be? It seemed like whenever I used them they left a funny pattern on the driveway that took a year to go away. Also they seemed to be dust magnets. A couple of days later they looked brown from the dust they attracted. I see tire shine products with adjectives like Insane Shine or Hot Shine. Are any of them good, or is it all advertising hype?

I've used several different kinds of tire products over the years and I settled on 3M tire cleaner and 3m tire restorer. The thing I like about the 3M restorer is that it makes the tire look new instead of shiny. I don't like the fake look of tire shine, but that's just me.

I quit using anything. I'm not entirely sure if it was to blame but my tires started cracking after one year. could have been the brand or something totally unrelated but I haven't had any problems with tires since I stopped *knocks on wood*

I used Armor-All for over 25 years. Never saw any cracking or turning brown like a lot of guys claimed. My cars have always been garaged, which may make a difference. I tried a new Lucas product called 'Tire Slick Mist' tire and trim shine and really like the look of the tires. Not too shiny or 'plastic' looking. Couldn't find it at all the regular parts houses so I ordered it from Summit. BTW, if you haven't tried Lucas' spray detailer you're missing a great product...

Some years back I was in the boat rental business in Florida. I used ArmourAll on the boat upholstery thinking it would help keep it soft. In just a few months the seats on new boats started to crack. I complained to the factory. They asked me if I was using ArmourAll. They suggested I change to STP Son-of-a-gun, which I did. The cracking upholstery problem went away.

I use the Stoner Trim Shine on tires. Nice finish, no sling.

You aren't the only one. I really dis-like the shiney tire trearment. Sad that you have to have this look or your car is not worthy to show. I have seen white letter tires that are green from having this crap on them.......................MO

I've always hated the shiny tire look as well. The best thing I've found is to get any of the commercial tire cleaners and use them as per the instructions. Then when all the foam disappears and your tires are shiny, spray them with the hose. Don't know why this works, but the water takes the shine off and leaves the tires looking black and new again.
