I think that guy was the first I have ever heard who was able to word the condition so well. My son had so much trouble in school. There is one thing though that differentiates ADD from ADHD. That is the (H) , Hyperactive, that's where a person just can't sit still. My son never had that. However, as an adult now, he does his own research for what bothers him and one is I think called Mysophonia or something like that. That is what the speaker said about the chewing sounds of someone else drive you crazy. When we eat, we must have low music or some background noise on or he can't tolerate it for long.
Interesting enough, I always had trouble staying awake in a class. I would get insults from the instructor accusing me of staying out all night partying. They would say, go get some coffee. It never helped! Caffein does nothing to me. When I took some training courses, I had 2 cups of coffee in the morning after 10 hours of sleep. Then took 2 Vivarin tablets which have the amount of 2 cups of coffee in each. Well, I fell asleep right in front of him. My life changed when sleep centers opened up. Nothing showed during the Apnea testing but they keep you up after it for about 8 hours with those same 23 probes stuck all over you. They put you down for a 20 minute nap every 2 hours. The doctor told me it takes most people about 20 to 30 minutes to get into REM. I was in it in a few minutes most of the time. The condition is a form of narcolepsy and I can't tell you how happy I was to learn it was treatable!
I was put on a form of Ritalin, similar to what my son was taking. Well Holy Sh_t! I was fully awake for the first time that I could remember. Wow, it was almost like being reborn.
During my checkups I posed a question to the doctors. I said I think that the part of the brain that keeps an ADD person focused, must be very close to the part that keeps you awake. They told me that it made perfect sense, (they might have been lying to me), but it must be somewhat true for people with similar problems. Well, I was on that stuff for more than 10 years. Being a swing shift worker is difficult enough, but when you have to do a short swing and be awake, I still keep some of that old Ritalin in my locker and damn; it still works even though it is 12 years old! Now I look back on my life & joke about it . Hell, if I had been awake through school, I could have been president by now or at least a close butt kisser. That instructor said something about some ADD people being able to remember every little detail of something that happened a long time in the past. My son echo's that to a Tee! I just wish that information about these types of problems were known & discussed long ago, it could have literally changed people's lives! Thank you for that Dibbons!
