Thank you very much for this. My best bud Levi passed away on thursday night. He was perfectly fine when he woke up, but didnt want to eat breakfast and threw up a couple times. I knew something was wrong so i took him to the vet. Blood work said his liver enzymes were way off. Did an ultrasound and they said his gallbladder was about to burst and had to remove it and hed be fine. When they opened him up they found most of his organs were riddled with cancer. Went to move his liver out of the way and it crumbled in their hands. Thats where it started and had spread to most of the rest of his little dachshund body. There was nothing they could do, finish the surgery and wake him up so we could put him to sleep or put him to sleep while he was still under anesthesia.... said he didnt even know he was sick. Just was nauseous that day because his enzymes were off. That was a shitty day.

Sorry to hear that. My beagle just got cancer. It's thyroid carcinoma. It's a cancer common in cats but very rare in dogs. We took her to OSU and did the surgery. It was all removed and she is doing great. I just wish we had insurance on her. She's breaking the bank. Over $5000 last year alone.

Thanks for that auggie56. We lost our chocolate lab in Sept. Started out similar to 68gtxnh but it was Mocha's spline. No cancer though, she survive the surgery but we lost her a few days later as her heart gave out. Sorry for you loss 68gtxnh. 383 a4 runner, glad to hear your beagle is doing well, we spent over $6k but worth every penny trying to save her.

We are nursing an almost fourteen year old Labrador. He's fine, except for age related ills, but he vomits at times. The vet wants to do blood and ex-ray tests, which are expensive. Were not heartless, but he's well over his expected age, and it would just be useless to put him through any surgeries. He's on meds for the vomiting, the second round of them.

My yellow lab was with me until 16 1/2 . . . so you got more time with that great dog ! ! ! Enjoy him while you can . . .

That pic reminds me of my old girl . . . RIP Belle . . . she was a great friend . . .

I cant say enough about pet insurance. We had trupanion with levi. The emergency surgery ultrasounds xrays etc all added up to $7500 even though he died. Trupanion covers 90% plus we had a $500 deductible and random fees. Only paid around $1180. My other dog who died last year is the true testament for trupanion pet insurance though. She was a 180lbs giant alaskan malamute. And had a series of fluke problems. First she ate my toddlers pacifier with a stuffed duck im it... $6500.then she had bloat, when the stomach flips, how marley died in the moviw marley and me, that was $7000 because she was so big anesthesia, pain meds, antibiotics, iv's, all averaged 6 times the typical dose for dogs (i was told its more exponential then linear?) So it added up fast. Then she collapsed one day and her stomach was full of anaphylactic fluid, turns out she got bit by a rattle snake... we have one poisonous type of snake in NH and theyre very rare. Of course she found one. So emergency surgery $4000 then liver failure from the bite then emergency surgery again. Then surgery from complications etc etc etc. Last one was to removed a dead lobe of her liver, she had complications way too quickly after her surgery so they could go in to try and fix it and shed died on the table, or she could bleed to death.. it was awful. I just cant belive both my dogs died so suddenly and randomly like that.. At the end of that one claim it was a total of $37,000 in emergency bills. And because trupanion pays 90% we only paid $3700 plus the deductible and fees. Just That first bill to remove the stuffed duck and pacifier, for most people makes it a death sentence for the dog. but we were able to keep her jealthy and happy that much longer with the insurance. They even said if levi's cancer wasnt as bad as it was, trupanion wouldve covered cemotherapy...who the heck could pay for something like that out of pocket? And no im not affiliated with them i just have two rock solid cases for why you should always get pet insurance. And compared to the other ones, trupanion is by far the best.

I lost my old pal Rex (yellow lab) a year ago and I miss him. He was 15 and had liver cancer
he was a true friend for sure.

Our Husky mix is 18. She's slow and deliberate, but I can tell she still has the drive and spirit. We rescued her when she was 8, did major ACL surgeries on both rear legs at 12, and have had the joy of her company for another 6 years. She can't go forever, but is still always happy to greet us, and even was trotting one day last week. We love our "Trinny-Boo". She's got the best over-all personality of all the Huskies we've had the pleasure to rescue[except a ferocious prey-drive], but I believe she's just a great mix. She's our "hillbilly Husky".

Came home from getting gas in car and wife's crying, WTH? She reflexively filled Sammy's bowl along with other 3 dogs. He's been gone little over a month and you still think about them.

Every day that you wake up, and get to enjoy the company of our four legged friends is always a good day . . . they have a way of melting your heart, as she's doing in the picture above . . .

She sure is a sweetie ! ! !

14 is old for a Lab. For what it's worth my Labs vomit regularly, although it's because they like to eat gross things when they go outside.
Anybody else's Labs like to roll in raccoon ****? Mine love to. I bathe them regularly and scratch my my head. Good thing they are so affectionate.
Sorry to hear about you guys losing your best friends. It sucks
My dad's lab is 11. Doing well. 2 years ago he tried to stop a semi. The 18 wheeler won. After 10 weeks with his front leg in a cast and 3000$ he's good as new. Money well spent for your best friend

We have had the same vet for forty years. He's a good guy, lets us run a tab. We make regular payments, but the bill never gets paid in full with three dogs.

Here's the other two inmates. You can see they are very well spoiled.

I took two of mine to the vet today to get distemper boosters and test for worms. Also get nails trimmed. Bill came to 160$.
Not bad.

Vet is has been my vet for long time. Did a wonderful job putting a different dog of mine back together after a tussle w an 18 wheeler

My dog follows me from room to room. She never complains and is always loyal. My best friend.
