Published data for SR-71 says top speed was Mach 3.3. I would believe a higher Mach speed for the SR-71 without damage to the engines or structure.

F-22 at Mach 3.3 is going to have the center-of-pressure shifted even further aft. I doubt the flight control laws have that flight regime at Mach 3.3+ covered. Maybe somebody did an "analysis" and determined the engines had enough thrust, but that's "just on paper". :D

Right before I retired...Ha Ha...was going to read "Flight lessons for dummies" but found this book more interesting!
Seriously?
Do you honestly believe that: "All of a sudden we forgot how to develop new aerospace technology and progress further than the 60's?
That is simply foolish thinking!
Simply foolish!
And furthermore, not using slide rulers but super computers at Wright- Patterson AFB (I spent 12 years there) they goal was to seek out Advanced Technologies which resulted in the YF-23 and the F-22, which I must add, was built by the same TEAM that built the SR-71.
So, I put this out there for YOU to think about and you make the decision.
Oh, one more thing as Lt. Columbo would say: Don't you think "the SR-71 is fastest" is what they want you to believe?

I wonder what the actual 'real top-speed was' for the SR-71 ?
Not what they claimed it is...
isn't mach-1 767mph/speed of sound (or close)
767 x 3.3=2531.1+ mph,
or is it mach-1 + 35% = 1.35 X the speed of sound = 1035.45mph
I may be confusing the 2
(if so that'd be 3416mph)
I thought they had claimed it SR-71 was more like 3500mph

I'm sure someone will correct me

You know what they tell US isn't always true, or is still classified :D
some for very good reasons too...

I love the F-22 & F-35's, but I don't know much
I even have a cup from someone who worked on it/them :poke:
to prove it

sorry for the shitty photos

HEY!
Where did you get THOSE patches?
Pretty cool stuff!
Is that the new B-21 Raider Patch?
Heard they are hard to get, especially that Wizard patch!

-I had heard that certain Blackbirds were faster than some others, and certain Blackbirds "handled" better than others, extrapolate this info to mean: "Yes, some flew and handled faster...but yeah, WE America didn't even announce the Sound Barrier was broken in 1947!
-And yes, I agree 100 percent, although I had worked with a "Bud" that goes by the call sign Cuda' Bob, Lockheed-Martin and he said dealing with the Aurora?, they had issues keeping it "lit"
Pulse detonation engine

-Furthermore, when the 4950TW moved from Wright-Patt to Edwards AFB 1994, I was with that group, And at that time the NASA High Speed Flight test division was flying a SR-71 with the Linear Aerospike Engine fastened on to the Blackbird!
We heard...it was a "Chase Plane" for something new!
This was 1995? and I myself am certain it was flying chase for the AURORA OR something more advanced...

So one day NASA guys came to our facility, I was flying ARIA then crew member and I asked this guy Colonel Gundalfeson what it was like flying the LASRE SR-71 and he told us "It's the wildest thing we have today"
That was 1995-96...so why was the Blackbird flying 'Chase"?
To monitor and video another faster vehicle??

I knew I would get you going @super-bee_ski  but you exceeded my wildest expectation!!!

Thank you for the replies

Ah-ha!
Wow,
Pretty slick there DeltaV
Pretty slick!

Crazy here at night, as I'M situated in AFFTC (Air Force Flight Test Center's) controlled Air Space 20 Miles North of Edwards AFB.
(we don't get Civy airlines here, no CHEM Trails as the Bladecutter would complain about)
Lots of "buzz" talk about 2 Tankers taking off around 10 PM a couple of times weekly and we are experiencing lots of low harmonic rumbles...
So, it's possible evidence the new B-21 is here flying, racking up the required 900 flight test hours needed for milestone "test flights".
In fact some of the F-22 team mates I was with have moved to that program.
It's being housed in the facility we had the F-22s although lots of money has been pumped into it.

BUT: Rumor has it that there is a possible new 6th or 7th Gen fighter on the way, after all...the F-22 is 80s-90s technology, so we shall see or um.. hear?
Hoping so
I do know for certain the Hypersonic Missile is here, and there are 2 versions, I understand both conventional warheads...
Speaking of Bladecutter.....anyone hear anything from him lately?

All I can say is those things are fast both old and new. Interesting thread guys! So let me empty out , hand be a bag and someone take me for a ride! Those things are awesome! The SR 71 has always fascinated me in its design and to think the was designed old school math, slide rule and logic is pretty far out. New stuff is far out I’d enjoy slobbering all over it for awhile ... neat stuff!
