Torsion bar crips

The clips on the trunk lid torsion bars, what are they for??

I think it is broken? If I remember right they are connected together by that clip in the middle where they cross.

Yes, it is broken. Should be a 's' clip.

Probably there to keep the bars separated so they don't rattle.

Im gonna bet it was just there when the cars were assembled at the factory on the line to hold the pair together , they wont rattle in the car as they are under tension when mounted.

There also was a short peice of rubber tubing on one of the bars where the 2 intersect.

That would be the anti-rattle part.
