torsion bar removal

yea, ive measured and 71-72 bars are the right length for it...hmm...

Cool! I have not done the specific measurments and am glad you did!

As I'm replacing the torsion xmember, I'll be keeping the old anchors in case I ever do need to replace the torsion bars, then I will delete the old torsion xmember and go with the shorter b-body bars.

i imagine you could find the torsion tubes to weld in there...there all the same for a,b,e bodys...removing them from a car to weld in is kind of a bitch...as a east coaster originaly ive repaired a few torsion crossmembers,

I removed my 4 speed trans twice on my 73 Roadrunner. The first time without removing the torsion bars and the second time I removed the bars. I recommend removing the bars. Not sure if you have more room with the auto trans... but it was much easier removing the A833 while lying on my back with the bars removed. If you remove the bars, make sure you get a removal tool, the tool bolts to the bar and cost about $30.

I have replaced the trans from my 74 charger without having to remove the tortion bar xmember as others have stated just remove the trans xmember, move the trans back then the front down and out. To keep the TQ in place, clamp a vicegrip on the bell housing to free up a hand.

This Spring I will be removing the torsion xmember to put in steel bushings. I know I can do this without actually removing it but I found a replacement as the one in the car must have snagged on something by the PO... I'll post snaps when I get it out to show how mangled it is! lol

Ok I just removed the torsion xmember and here isa pic as promised of that mangled pos and beside it the replacement

wow, thats wiped out, also looks like those mount ho;es are walloed out too..i wonder if boxing in the bottom of that new one is a good idea, i think it is because when the torsion bar twists, it triues to bond it downward..
